Job summary

BAE Systems Inc Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a talented software engineer to deliver embedded satellite software and test infrastructure. You will work on satellite command/control, mission planning and data analysis software, covering full life cycle from requirements to support.

The role emphasizes on-site work five days a week with potential travel between campuses. A TS/SCI clearance is required and extensive cloud/modern tech exposure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) is expected.

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in Engineering or related field with 8+ years of experience.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance required.
• Cloud development using AWS, Lambda, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Web and REST service development using Spring, Jersey, Flask, CherryPy or Ruby on Rails.
• Front-end/UX with JavaScript, Angular, React, JavaFX, Python or Qt.
• Back-end work with SQL and NoSQL databases; JPA/ORM experience.
• Modeling, planning or scheduling software in Java, C++, or Python.
• Solid object-oriented design experience.

The Software and Ground Solutions group at BAE Systems Inc Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is looking to expand our team with a talented and energetic software engineer focused on delivering high-quality, embedded satellite software and associated test infrastructure. This position supports a portfolio of software programs. Technology areas include software development, CI/CD, Containerization, C/C++, Rust, Python, and Ruby. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You'll Do:

• Develop satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis software systems,
• Perform full software life cycle functions including requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, documentation, and support.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

• Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
• May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
• May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
• BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience
• Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
• A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
• Cloud development using AWS, Lambda, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Web and REST service development using Spring, Jersey, Flask, CherryPy, or Ruby on Rails.
• Front-end and UX development using JavaScript, Angular, React, JavaFX, Python, or Qt.
• Back-end development using SQL and NoSQL databases, and JPA/ORM.
• Modeling, planning, or scheduling software development in languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
• Experience with object-oriented design.
