Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. in Houston, Texas is seeking an Engineer I–Software to design, develop and support web-based management software and standards-based solutions such as PLDM/RDE for server storage applications.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience with developing storage products is a plus.
  • Proficient with UI and supporting APIs.
  • Experience with OO languages like C++, C#, Java; C a plus.
  • Experience with Postman and Jenkins.
  • Experience with XML/JSON, XSLT, Web Services.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript; jQuery a plus.
  • Scripting experience with Perl, Python.
  • Experience with VMware; Windows and Linux environments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and unit/behavioral test high-quality application software and APIs.
  • Implement and manage project deliverables using the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Maintain and support applications, infrastructure, and information systems; optimize, troubleshoot and debug.
  • Develop features for new generations and support current products.
  • Collaborate with hardware, ASIC, firmware, OS driver and test teams to deliver complete solutions.
  • Deliver software that meets customer requirements.

Job Description

Microchip Technology Inc. has an Engineer I–Software opening based in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and supporting web-based Management Software, as well as implementing Standards based solutions such as PLDM/RDE for server storage applications. In this role, you will be working within a team of other software engineers delivering industry-leading storage products for the Enterprise and Data Center environments. You will work closely with hardware, ASIC, firmware, OS driver and test teams to help deliver complete solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and unit/behavioral test high quality application software and APIs within the formal Agile process.
  • Implements and manages project deliverables using Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Maintains and supports applications, infrastructure, and information systems, and performs optimization, troubleshooting, and debugging tasks.
  • Develop features for new generations of products as well as supporting current ones.
  • Interface with other teams to build a complete software stack solution.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and organization.
  • Deliver software applications that meets all customer requirements.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
  • Experience in developing storage products a plus.
  • Working knowledge of UIs and supporting APIs.
  • Experience with higher-level object-oriented programming languages, such as C++, C#, Java, etc.
  • Proficient with C programming language a plus.
  • Experience with Postman and Jenkins.
  • Experience with XSLT, XML, Web Services, JSON.
  • Experience with Advanced Web technologies such as HTML 5, CSS3, JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery a plus.
  • Experience with Perl, Python, and other scripting languages.
  • Experience with VMware a plus.
  • Experienced with both Windows and Linux OSes and programming environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extremely comfortable working with others.
  • Strong problem solving, hands‑on debugging, lab skills, and use of test equipment.
  • Highly motivated and can achieve goals with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and with the formal Agile Software development process.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with unit and behavioral testing frameworks.
