Job summary

Corning Inc. seeks a motivated Process Engineer to join its Solar manufacturing team in Phoenix, AZ. You will support design, optimization, and control of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 0-3 years of manufacturing engineering experience.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Process Engineer to join our solar manufacturing team. In this role, you will support the design, optimization, and control of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain the highest quality standards. You will play a key role in advancing solar panel production capabilities through data-driven problem solving, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration, helping drive sustainable and efficient manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes for solar panels and related products.
• Analyze production workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, quality, and waste reduction.
• Support the design, testing, and implementation of new manufacturing technologies and process improvements.
• Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve production and process issues.
• Establish and maintain process controls to ensure products meet quality and performance specifications.
• Investigate process deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and operating standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Support departmental and site improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
• Support the installation, startup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
• Partner with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.
• Evaluate materials and manufacturing methods to improve product quality, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure material and process specifications are consistently achieved.
• Monitor and analyze production, quality, and equipment performance metrics.
• Utilize data to identify trends, drive improvements, and support decision-making.
• Generate reports and presentations outlining process performance, project status, and improvement opportunities.
• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
• Support production line audits, 5S initiatives, standardized work practices, and operational excellence programs.
• Adhere to all Corning and OSHA safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment while on plant premises.

Experiences/Education - Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 0-3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, including internships or co-op experience.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, process improvement principles, and industrial equipment.
• Experience or coursework involving mechanical systems, electrical systems, automation, controls, programming, or equipment troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Experiences/Education - Preferred

• Experience in solar, semiconductor, glass, or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Experience with data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), DOE, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma & DMAIC methodologies.
• Exposure to PLCs, automation systems, HMI platforms, robotics, or industrial controls.
• Green Belt certification or progress toward certification.

The range for this position is$70,776.00-$97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
