Job summary

Corning is seeking a process engineer focused on reducing defects by identifying root causes and partnering with suppliers to improve performance. You will apply DMAIC and advanced statistics to drive cost, quality, uptime, yield, cycle time, and safety improvements.

The role requires evaluating new materials, equipment, and parameters, while documenting SOPs and process changes across Corning divisions and R&D teams.

Qualifications

• BS in chemical, materials, ceramic, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
• 0–5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing.
• Rigorous problem solving; proficient in process control/analysis techniques.
• Experience completing manufacturing projects with data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Implement Process Control and Process Discipline systems.

Role Purpose

This role focuses on reducing defects by identifying and eliminating root causes, partnering with suppliers to improve performance, and ensuring measurement and inspection systems meet customer requirements. Responsibilities include improving processes and resolving complex problems through a scientific, data-driven approach; applying DMAIC methodology and advanced statistical tools; and driving improvements in manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yield, cycle time, and safety. The role also evaluates new raw materials, equipment, and process parameters, while documenting SOPs, SOSs, experiment plans, and process changes. Projects may support any Corning division or Research & Development organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new processes or improve existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
• Solve problems and improve processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.
• Implement Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations
• Analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.).
• Measure and communicate performance against established objectives.
• Review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc.
• Document processes and train operators and peers on defined processes

Travel Requirements

Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs. International travel could be required as well.

Experiences/Education - Required

• Minimum of BS in chemical, materials, ceramic, mechanical engineering, computer science.
• 0 to 5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing
• Rigorous problem solving - Proficient in the use of process control/ analysis techniques
• Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization and decision making based on data

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Capable of leading small process development / improvement projects
• Innovation experience
• Process excellence (Six Sigma) Green Belt or higher
• Strong written and oral communication skills

The range for this position is$70,776.00-$97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
