Job summary

Badger Meter is seeking an Engineer I, Firmware in Milwaukee, WI to contribute to embedded firmware development and product testing. The role supports new product development and maintaining existing firmware in production, with opportunities to collaborate with Engineering leaders and other disciplines.

You will work on design, verification, and troubleshooting of embedded firmware for microcontrollers, using C/C++ and standard lab tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, CS, or Firmware Engineering.
  • Basic firmware design knowledge for microcontrollers/microprocessors (C, C++).
  • Familiar with revision control systems (Git or SVN).
  • Understanding of digital circuit basics and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design firmware components for projects with oversight.
  • Provide firmware support for product and sustaining engineering.
  • Perform product and design verification tests.
  • Assist in defining production plans/implementations.
  • Write product work instructions and processes.
  • Initiate engineering change requests.

What You Will Contribute

The Engineer I, Firmware will support Badger Meter’s continued growth and alignment amongst product families. The Engineer I contributes to aspects of embedded systems regarding firmware development and product performance testing. The Engineer I assists projects involving new product development and maintaining existing products in the production environment while gaining product knowledge. This individual contributor role offers autonomy, creativity, and the opportunity to work side by side with the Engineering leaders. The incumbent must be willing and able to learn, work effectively in a multi-discipline team, and demonstrate effective problem-solving initiative and motivation.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Design firmware component/portion of a project with oversight
  • Provide firmware support for product and sustaining engineering with oversight from more senior engineers.
  • Perform product and design verification tests
  • Assist in defining plans/production implementations
  • Write product work instructions/process documents
  • Initiate and implement engineering change requests
  • Participates in multi-discipline project teams, provide input into project schedules, budgets and risks.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • No previous experience required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or CS/Software/Firmware Engineering.
  • Basic working design knowledge of embedded microcontroller/microprocessor firmware (C, C++, etc.)
  • Familiarly with revision control systems (Git or SVN)
  • Basic understanding of digital circuit design and troubleshooting.
  • Basic familiarity with implementing schematics for digital circuits, with common ECAD tools (Altium, PCAD, or Protel)
  • Experience working with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers for troubleshooting PCBs and electronic products. (Preferred)
  • Experience working with other company departments on occasion in technical support of products. (Preferred)
  • Experience debugging and prototyping embedded systems (Preferred)
