Job summary

CoorsTek is seeking an Engineer I – Ceramic CNC New Product Development in Colorado. You will help take ceramic components from concept through prototype to production, translating designs into practical CNC processes and optimizing tooling and parameters.

You will collaborate with machinists and engineers, program CNC machines, and evaluate prototypes with GD&T and dimensional inspection. A mechanical engineering degree and hands-on CNC exposure are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Fundamental knowledge of CNC machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and CAD models with GD&T understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and development of new ceramic components and assemblies.
  • Translate drawings and CAD models into CNC machining processes.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment for ceramic parts.
  • Develop cutting parameters, tooling, fixturing, and machining strategies.
  • Build prototypes, perform testing and inspections, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Document results and contribute to process improvements.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with both engineering design and CNC machinery and wants to see products progress from concept and prototype through production. The engineer will work closely with experienced engineers, machinists, and manufacturing personnel to develop ceramic parts, establish machining processes, troubleshoot problems, and improve product quality and manufacturability. This is a practical role combining engineering, CNC machining, materials, experimentation, and problem-solving.Roles & Responsibilities:Support the design and development of new ceramic components and assemblies.Translate engineering drawings and CAD models into practical CNC machining processes.Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment used to machine ceramic materials.Develop and optimize cutting parameters, tooling, fixturing, and machining strategies.Build and evaluate prototypes and first-article parts.Perform hands-on testing, dimensional inspection, and process evaluations.Troubleshoot machining, dimensional, surface-finish, and material-related issues.Work directly with machinists and manufacturing personnel to improve processes and part quality.Assist with selection and evaluation of diamond tooling, fixtures, coolants, and other machining consumables.Use engineering drawings, GD&T, CAD models, and inspection equipment to verify requirements.Document development work, test results, machining parameters, and process improvements.Assist in developing manufacturing processes and work instructions for new products.Participate in root-cause investigations and identify opportunities to improve quality, yield, cycle time, and tooling life.Education:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline.Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field and/or 4 years of experience in similar discipline.Experience:0-4 YearsFunctional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with machinery and tools.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.Basic understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing processes.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Effective written and verbal communication skills.PreferredInternship, co-op, laboratory, or project experience involving CNC machining or manufacturing.Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or machining centers.Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar.Familiarity with GD&T and dimensional inspection equipment.Experience working with ceramics, glass, composites, carbide, graphite, or other brittle/hard materials.Experience with diamond tooling or abrasive machining.Exposure to statistical process control, DOE, or other manufacturing/process-development methods.Preferred Qualifications (Optional Section)Internship, co-op, laboratory, or project experience involving CNC machining or manufacturing.Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or machining centers.Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar.Familiarity with GD&T and dimensional inspection equipment.Experience working with ceramics, glass, composites, carbide, graphite, or other brittle/hard materials.Experience with diamond tooling or abrasive machining.Exposure to statistical process control, DOE, or other manufacturing/process-development methods.Target Hiring RangeAnnual Salary: USD 73,342.00 - USD 90,000.00Actual compensation is commensurate with experience, skills and education.
