This posting will cover 2 positions in Div 3 Maintenance: 60017175 & 60017113. Only one application is needed to be considered for both positions.
Position 60017175 is located in the Division 3 Maintenance Office in Castle Hayne. However, on a daily basis this position will report to either the New Hanover County Maintenance Office in Castle Hayne OR Brunswick County Maintenance Office in Shallotte.
Position 60017113 is located in the Division 3 Maintenance Office in Castle Hayne. However, on a daily basis this position will report to either the Sampson County Maintenance Office in Clinton OR Duplin County Maintenance Office in Kenansville.
The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize staff, direct, and monitor construction and maintenance activities in the division to provide a safe and efficient highway system. Manage these activities within budgetary constraints and organize/direct the safety program for the areas. Provide technical and administrative assistance to the County Maintenance Engineers. Implement Division directives and provide direct field oversight/contact with all subordinate manager/supervisors. Troubleshoot issues throughout maintenance areas and ensure consistency in application of policies and procedures throughout the division. Address requests from customers, internal and external, and facilitate solutions to meet the needs of all parties are applicable. The successful applicant will use knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance methods and techniques. Considerable knowledge of the use and operation of all field and office engineering instruments, ability to understand, explain and administer contacts, ability to interpret plans & make field adjustments as needed to complete work order safely, provisions and specifications, ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations is needed. Ability to track progress of work order. Ability to create, modify, verify various reports to include but not limited to Daily Operational Reports, FORE Documentation, Materials Installed, MRRs, Asphalt Reports, Asphalt Density Reports, Materials Tickets, Pay Records, Invoices and SAP/MMS reports for completed tasks.

- Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Additional Expectations
Promote safe work environment, effectively communicate, and maintain working relationships with the general public, local government officials, fellow employees, etc. Supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate employees. Assist in the supervision and monitoring of maintenance program to ensure efficient use of personnel, equipment, and materials. Able to read and interpret such things as construction plans and reports. Able to prepare or review reports. Person working in this position will be exposed to outside environmental hazards and may be required to work at night and on weekends. Safety toe shoes required.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
