Job description

Title: Engineer I

Location: United States-Utah-Ogden

Job Number: 18902

The Engineer I supports aerospace component sustainment activities under the direction of a Senior Engineer and/or Engineering Manager while developing applied engineering judgment and technical capability. The role supports component inspections, technical-data research, nonconformance investigations, engineering submittals and dispositions, repair-opportunity evaluations, and the maintenance of accurate engineering records and reporting. The position works closely with program, warehouse, depot, supplier, quality, and U.S. Air Force personnel to help ensure safe, compliant, and timely resolution of landing gear component issues.

What you will be responsible for
  • Support preparation, coordination, and closure of engineering submittals and disposition records, including ETAR/202, 1694, request-for-variance, deviation, and related technical documentation.
  • Inspect landing gear components, Exhibit 11 items, serviceable returns, and other incoming material at warehouse and depot locations; compare condition to applicable technical orders, drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Evaluate assets in P condition, document defects and supporting evidence, and recommend appropriate paths such as repair, rework, use-as-is, further engineering review, or condemnation for approval by authorized engineering personnel.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Air Force engineers, depot personnel, warehouse teams, suppliers, quality personnel, and internal program functions to obtain dimensions, photographs, records, and other information needed for technical review and disposition.
  • Maintain engineering logs, databases, source records, and reporting datasets; perform routine data validation and reconciliation to support traceability, status reporting, condemnation tracking, and program decision-making.
  • Research technical orders, drawings, specifications, and historical records to support repair development, component qualification, reverse-engineering efforts, and resolution of technical questions.
  • Develop and update work instructions, inspection guides, standard work, and process documentation to improve consistency, traceability, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Support nonconformance, QDR/PQDR, and continuous-improvement activities; identify potential product or process issues, communicate risks promptly, and ensure assigned work complies with company, customer, quality, safety, and export-control requirements.
  • Travel may be required.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, or another applicable engineering field from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, specifications, inspection results, and dimensional data; aircraft component, maintenance, manufacturing, or depot experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with data visualization, reporting tools, or engineering workflow systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work in both office and industrial warehouse/depot environments and travel as needed.
  • This position requires compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Candidates must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or individual admitted as a refugee or granted asylum).
  • Two (2) years of experience in aircraft or aircraft-component engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, inspection, depot operations, or a related technical environment is preferred.
