Job summary

ABM is seeking a Building Engineer in Philadelphia to perform routine maintenance and assist in repair of structures, equipment, and fixtures across the facility and grounds.

You will work with Facilities Management staff to ensure safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operations, handling carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing tasks, responding to emergencies, and processing work orders on mobile devices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with facility personnel.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical systems and general maintenance.

Job description

The Building Engineer performs various routine maintenance assignments and assist other Facilities Management personnel in the repair and maintenance of physical structures, equipment, and fixtures of the facility and grounds.

Responsibilities
  • Carpentry duties; install shelving, and repair windows, screens, blinds, and suspended ceilings
  • Electrical duties: switches, reset breakers, change bulbs and ballasts, other electrical duties as assigned
  • HVAC duties – check thermostats, hot and cold calls
  • Light plumbing repairs – change washers, valves, and shutoffs
  • General maintenance service for facility personnel (assemble furniture and accessories, move items)
  • Generalized knowledge of the use of power tools and other equipment
  • Assist other trades as required in emergencies or overload situations, including snow removal, groundskeeping and other items as assigned.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and other Facilities Management personnel to solicit expertise of required crafts necessary to complete assignments
  • Report defective materials, faulty operation of equipment, and unusual matters to supervisor and appropriate personnel
  • Make inspections of and file deficiency reports (to include work order requests) to correct problems for spaces, electrical mechanical equipment, control, and systems to ensure safe and reliable operations at peak energy efficiency
  • Work from work order system on wireless tablets and/or verbal instructions
  • Prioritize urgency of work requests based on department procedures and notify supervisor of any problems or delays in projects
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition and follow standard and prescribed safety regulations.
  • Report any violation of OSHA Regulations to supervisor.
  • Exercise and ensure that others follow safe working practices (even if this requires wearing a hard hat, safety glasses, cap, gown, proper footwear, or other safety apparel)
  • Respond to all facility emergency codes.
  • Attend all facility-sponsored training in Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire Safety, Right-To-Know, and others as required
  • May be required to drive personal or facility owned vehicles for business purposes. If so, drivers will be subject to an initial driving record review (for currency of licensure as well as violations) and periodic reviews thereafter.
  • Handle multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Work alone effectively, managing anger/fear/hostility and/or stress appropriately
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 2 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience.
  • 5 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience
  • Ability to easily and effectively communicate and collaborate with facility personnel.
  • Ability to handle computer data entry input
  • Some knowledge and skill in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general maintenance
