MacAllister Machinery Co., Inc. seeks an Engineer – EPG Product Development to support the approved design catalog for Electric Power Strategic Accounts. You will translate BoD requirements into scalable catalog solutions, validate supplier designs, and drive continuous product improvements across projects.

You will collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure compliant, repeatable, and efficient project execution, leveraging your design and validation expertise.

Position Summary
  • Support the catalog of approved power system configurations, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, BoD standards, and business needs
  • Assist in Translating customer requirements into approved technical solutions and manager configuration, change control, and catalog updates
  • Identify design gaps and develop new configurations to support current and future project needs
  • Review supplier design requirements and support validation activities to ensure alignment with established requirements, engineering standards, and product objectives
  • Partner with supplier engineering and quality teams to evaluate technical feasibility, performance, and implementation risks
  • Provide technical input on supplier solutions for catalog inclusion and elevate concerns as appropriate
Description
Position Summary

The Engineer – EPG Product Development is responsible for supporting the approved design catalog for Electric Power Strategic Accounts. This role assists in translating customer Basis of Design (BoD) requirements into scalable, catalog-based solutions, evaluates design deviations, validates supplier-proposed designs, and drives continuous product improvements. Serving as the engineering technical resource for approved configurations, the role partners with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, repeatable, and efficient project execution across the portfolio.

Position Duties/Responsibilities
Catalog & Design Governance
  • Support the catalog of approved power system configurations, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, BoD standards, and business needs
  • Assist in Translating customer requirements into approved technical solutions and manager configuration, change control, and catalog updates
  • Identify design gaps and develop new configurations to support current and future project needs
Supplier Design Requirements & Validation
  • Review supplier design requirements and support validation activities to ensure alignment with established requirements, engineering standards, and product objectives
  • Partner with supplier engineering and quality teams to evaluate technical feasibility, performance, and implementation risks
  • Provide technical input on supplier solutions for catalog inclusion and elevate concerns as appropriate
Deviation Management & Customer Engineering Support
  • Evaluate requests that fall outside approved catalog configurations and recommend appropriate resolution paths, including one-time approvals, catalog enhancements, or rejection
  • Support design-related discussions with customers and internal stakeholders, providing engineering input and technical guidance as needed
  • Assess the impact of specification, BoD, and design changes on approved configurations and project execution
Field Escalation & Technical Problem Resolution
  • Provide engineering support for design-related field escalations and recurring technical issues
  • Evaluate field performance, failure trends, and corrective actions and recommend design revisions or catalog updates
  • Partner with project, quality, and field teams to drive effective resolution of design-related concerns
Value Engineering, New Product Introduction, & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in technical evaluation of Value Engineering and New Product Introduction opportunities
  • Assess proposed changes for technical feasibility, BoD compliance, and implementation impact
  • Use supplier, project execution, quality, and field performance data to improve product standardization, scalability, and catalog effectiveness
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • No formal supervisory responsibilities.
Position Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in product engineering, design engineering, or application engineering for electrical or mechanical power systems
  • Experience interpreting customer specification and translating them into actionable design requirements for suppliers and manufacturers
  • Experience validating supplier or manufacturer designs against customer specifications and engineering standards
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in product engineering, design engineering, or application engineering for electrical or mechanical power systems
  • Experience with data center projects or high-volume, configured-to-order engineering environments where scalability and repeatability drive engineering decisions
  • Knowledge of diesel and/or natural gas generator set systems, including controls interfaces, emissions compliance (Tier 4), and enclosure configurations
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar Electric Power products and application guidelines
  • Knowledge of critical power infrastructure (UPS, switchgear, paralleling systems)
  • Familiarity with NFPA, IEEE, and Uptime Institute standards for data center reliability
  • Experience with design change management, configuration control, and deviation management processes
  • Experience with FAT/IFAT commissioning processes for generator system
  • Experience defining and managing supplier design requirements across multiple commodity types
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and technical submittals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to lead technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent drafting/review tools
  • Ability to determine whether a solution meets BoD requirements and make technically sound evaluation recommendations
  • Ability to translate basic customer specifications into actionable, unambiguous supplier requirements
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of approved configurations as a system, not a collection of one-off solutions
  • Ability to engage credibly with supplier engineering teams on design topics, review proposed solutions, and identify gaps
  • Ability to assess out-of-catalog conditions objectively and recommend the right path (one-time deviation, catalog update, or rejection)
  • Ability to understand the interaction between engineering, supplier quality, project management, and field execution in project-driven environments
  • Ability to manage documentation – configuration control, change management, traceability, and design record maintenance
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across catalog development, deviation requests, BoD changes, VE/NPI, and field escalation response
Other Requirements of Position
  • Works under limited supervision. Independently determines the approach to take and the methods to use. Interprets policy in terms of objectives. Informs manager of unusual situations with far-reaching implications.
  • Major responsibilities require a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Only general objectives have been defined and few precedents exist.
  • If an error is made while in this position, it will require significant effort to identify the error and can create a significant impact on the company financially.
