Job summary

Atlas seeks an Engineer in Training to join our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team. This role builds hands-on experience in geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing, field testing, and quality assurance while pursuing PE licensure under mentorship.

You will support field exploration, lab testing, data analysis, and proposal/report preparation for highway, municipal, utilities, and commercial projects, with opportunities for growth toward project leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with geotechnical emphasis preferred from ABET-accredited program
• EIT certification required or FE exam passed and actively pursuing EIT
• Knowledge of ASTM/ASTM and TxDOT testing standards and methods

Responsibilities

• Assist planning and execution of geotechnical field investigations, including soil borings and sampling
• Perform materials testing and QA/QC for soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate on active projects
• Coordinate with drilling crews and field personnel to meet schedules and quality standards
• Log and classify soil/rock samples per ASTMAASHTO standards
• Prepare geotechnical data and reports under licensed PE supervision
• Support design tasks for foundations, earthwork, and pavement
• Travel to project sites as needed (regional travel)

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Engineer EIT to join our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing CMT team This role is ideal for an early career engineer looking to build hands on experience in geotechnical investigations laboratory testing and construction material testing & quality assurance while working toward PE licensure under the mentorship of senior staff You will support field exploration field testing lab testing & analysis and proposalfee and report preparation for a variety of public and private sector projects including highway municipal utilities and commercial developments projects

Core Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of geotechnical field investigations including soil borings sampling and in situ testingPerform materials testing and QAQC for soils concrete asphalt and aggregate on active construction projectsCoordinate with drilling crews technicians and construction personnel to ensure project schedules and quality standards are metLog and classify soil and rock samples in accordance with ASTMAASHTO standardsOversee typical geotechnical laboratory testing and conduct advanced Geotechnical laboratory testingAnalyze field and lab data to support geotechnical engineering recommendationsAssist in preparing geotechnical data and engineering reports and construction observation reports under the direction of a licensed PESupport design tasks for foundation retaining structures earth work and pavement as directedMaintain accurate field documentation daily reports and testing recordsAssist in preparing geotechnical and CMT service proposals including scope fee and schedule inputsTravel to projectjob sites as needed including some regional travel

Key Qualifications

Youll thrive here if you have Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Geotechnical emphasis preferred from an ABET accredited program 13 years of relevant geotechnical andor CMT experience Engineer in Training EIT certification required or passed FE exam and actively pursuing EIT Working knowledge of ASTMAASHTOTxDOT testing standards and methods Familiarity with soilrock classification and basic geotechnical engineering principles Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to geotechnical software see above is a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing Valid drivers license with a clean driving record Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and liftcarry field equipment up to 50 lbs Ability to travel 50 75 of the time Ability to obtain missing certification within 6 months of hire Ability to use and navigate SiteManager and Metafield is a plus Currently have or able to obtain or already have Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I ACI StrengthHMAC Level1A Geotechnical Software PreferredFamiliarity a Plus
