Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Clearfield, UT is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer Level 2 to interpret and implement regulations, assist in changes to facilities to meet new requirements, and manage waste disposal contracts.

The role leads audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments and safety inspections; develops Job Hazards Analyses; coordinates EHS training and regulatory interactions; partners with site leadership to improve culture and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact on operations.
  • Partner with site leadership to improve EHS culture, awareness and accountability.
  • Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs for compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Perform audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, and safety inspections.
  • Create and update Job Hazards Analyses and participate in tool design and project reviews for PPE requirements.
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate EHS training and conduct instructor-led sessions.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies and external customers during inspections and follow-up on findings.
  • Interface with safety committees and management to address concerns.
  • Implement EHS management systems and documentation to proactively reduce hazards.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer Level 2

The position requires on-site support located in Clearfield, UT. This role interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

Key Roles And Responsibilities Include
  • Review and interpret existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact on operations. Assists with implementation of EHS programs to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with site leadership to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention and risk mitigation.
  • Complete audits, industrial hygiene (IH) sampling, ergonomic assessments, and safety inspections.
  • Creates and updates Job Hazards Analyses.
  • Participates in tooling design and project reviews, provides regulatory requirements and recommendations for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist during accident/incident investigations to help determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Prepare and coordinate EHS training and conduct instructor-led EHS training.
  • Participates in regulatory agency and external customer inspections and follows up on any resulting findings.
  • Interface with employee-based safety committees, senior management and other functional support groups to address safety concerns.
  • Implement EHS management systems, sector-level programs and associated documentation to proactively eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
  • Support site environmental compliance and sustainability programs as needed.
Basic Qualifications Level 2
  • Bachelor’s Degree in science and 2 years of occupational health and safety or related experience or Master’s Degree and 0 years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively.
  • Must have a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental health or occupational safety.
  • Previous DoD, Military or Aerospace facilities experience.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
