Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Elkton, MD is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to lead environmental, health and safety programs across multiple sites. You will oversee regulatory compliance, injury prevention, sustainability efforts, and hazards analysis in energetic operations, reporting to the Weapons Systems Division EHS Manager.

The role requires DoD Secret Clearance eligibility, strong leadership, and the ability to travel about 25% to Elkton, NY and FL locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires BS in Environmental Science/Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent technical area (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, etc.).
• Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of EHS experience or a Masters degree and 5 years of EHS experience
• Minimum of 3 years of Managerial experience
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.
• Strong management, coaching, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and multi-task various Industrial Hygiene, Safety and environmental programs effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with subordinates and delegate responsibilities with productive outcome.
• Ability to travel 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Observes, records, analyzes and affects change of EH&S compliance-related activities; interfaces with regulators to resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with Corporate and Sector EHS procedures and guidelines (HOPS, K200).
• Perform PS&C PPCB Secretary duties to ensure internal reviews per HOPS and guiding documents.
• Review Operating Procedures for safety and environmental compliance; approve or revise as needed.
• Use Root Cause analysis and Problem-Solving tools to provide technical solutions.
• Collect, evaluate and interpret EH&S data; prepare metrics for leadership.
• Partner with leaders to foster a strong EHS culture across PS&C BU.
• Prepare communications to management and external stakeholders.
• Manage relationships with EH&S regulatory personnel (DCMA, OSHA, EPA).
• Lead internal actions related to event investigations.
• Harmonize company EHS policies across sites.
• Develop and provide safety training for touch labor, engineers and management.
• Manage occupational health programs including industrial hygiene monitoring and surveillance.
• Manage department budget and identify process improvements and cost reductions.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee hazards analysis to ensure timely completion.

This position is located in Elkton, MD and will have EH&S responsibilities for three locations (Elkton, Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach, FL). This position will report directly to the Weapons Systems Division Environmental, Safety, Health and Sustainability Manager. The EH&S Manager will manage a team of environmental, health and safety professionals with a focus on regulatory compliance, injury prevention and sustainability efforts. This position will also manage a team of Hazards Analysis/System Safety personnel who focus on identifying various hazards within energetic and site operations and ensuring all work is conducted safely.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing injury prevention programs, developing compliance strategies for new and existing health, safety and environmental regulations and/or company policies, and supporting programs in a rapidly evolving environment.

Specific Functional Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Observes, records, analyzes and affects change of EH&S compliance-related activities as necessary. Interacts with federal, state and local regulators to resolve compliance issues.
• Assure compliance with Corporate and Sector EHS procedures and guidelines such as HOPS and K200.
• Performs PS&C PPCB Secretary duties to ensure internal reviews are completed as required by HOPS and other guiding documents.
• Review Operating Procedures and approve or revise for safety and environmental compliance.
• Utilizes Root Cause and Problem-Solving tools. Provides creative and practical technical solutions to a moderate range of challenging problems.
• Collects, evaluates and interprets relevant EH&S related data and metrics. Prepares environmental, health and safety metrics to leadership as required.
• Partner with other leaders to lead and foster a strong positive EHS culture across the PS&C Business Unit.
• Provides input for external communications to customers, regulators & shareholders.
• Prepares communications to internal management.
• Manage PS&C relationships and related activities with EH&S regulatory personnel such as DCMA Safety, OSHA, EPA and other regulatory agencies.
• Lead internal actions and activities related to event investigations.
• Collaboration with other sites, EH&S Managers, to harmonize company EH&S policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting EHS programs for manufacturing operations.
• Experience with Hazards Analysis and GFMEA.
• Experience working in an environment that processes and utilizes energetic materials such as propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, etc.
• Demonstrate the ability to develop and carry out sustainability programs to meet corporate metrics.
• Success in building and implementing a proactive safety culture
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Primary Level Salary Range: $127,100.00 - $190,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
