Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE) seeks a Data Center Operations Engineer to ensure compliance with procedures and best practices in ICE’s data center and access centers.

The role involves project work, incident and workflow tasks, change control, and documentation updates across service management tools. The DCOE will perform daily checks, manage third-party contractors, and ensure accurate asset tracking for cables, hardware, and inventory.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Installation, relocation and recovery of network, server and storage hardware to manufacturer standards and industry best practice.
  • Repair of hardware to major component level (e.g. disk, NIC, memory) across vendor equipment.
  • Execute data center work according to defined processes and procedures.
  • Manage goods in/out for the storage facility and keep full records for all assets.
  • Receive damaged hardware and process replacements via RMA.
  • Carry out monthly audits of stored items and report anomalies.
  • Maintain and update asset records with location and status.
  • Update records after installations, moves or changes.
  • Perform daily housekeeping checks of data halls and record findings.
  • Control data center stock and report on inventory levels.
  • Provide holiday and sickness cover to support OLA’s & SLA’s.

Job Purpose

The Data Center Operations Engineer (DCOE) is primarily responsible in ensuring that all activities carried out in the Data Center & Access Center’s conform to Data Center Procedures and industry best practice.

Overview

The Data Center Operations Engineer (DCOE) is primarily responsible in ensuring that all activities carried out in the Data Center & Access Center’s conform to Data Center Procedures and industry best practice. The DCOE will carry out Data Center works as directed, these works could be project based or tasks received via incident management or workflow management tools. In all cases the DCOE will ensure that Change Control rules are followed and support documentation is appropriate and correct. The role is will also be responsible for carrying out daily checks in their areas of responsibility, ensuring security is maintained, managing third parties and ensuring all work activity is captured and updates entered into the Data Center management tool, or into the workflow management/incident management tool, Service Now. Support and execute all Data Center capacity management for cables and hardware on behalf of the Data Center Engineering & Operations team such that each item is recorded in a central database/spread sheet; this will be done for Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and ICE colocation customers.

Responsibilities
  • Installation, relocation and recovery of Network, Server and Storage hardware to manufacturer standards and industry best practice.
  • Repair of hardware to major component level (e.g. hard disk, NIC card, memory) across a broad range of vendor equipment.
  • Execution of all work to Data Center work process & procedure.
  • Manage the goods in/out process for your dedicated storage facility and keep full records as directed for all incoming/outgoing assets and a full availability list of all items in storage.
  • Receipt of damaged/failed hardware internally and replacement through Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) process.
  • Carry out monthly audits of items in store and produce a report of all anomalies.
  • Manage asset record updates, tracking and placing assets as to their location and status (deployed, ceased etc).
  • Ensure that all records are updated following any installations, moves or changes.
  • Carry out daily housekeeping checks of the data halls and record their findings.
  • Control Data Center stocks (copper/fibre patch leads, patch panels, connectors etc.) and report appropriately.
  • To provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns to support and maintain OLA’s & SLA’s.
Knowledge And Experience
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Data Center environments
  • Pro-active and flexible with ability to work either as part of a team or as an individual
  • Effective written and verbal communication at all levels
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Desire to learn and progress within the company
  • Experience of hardware manufacturer installation standards and knowledge of copper and fibre cabling installations and standards, with preference given to the following qualifications;
    • HP Accredited Platform Specialist
    • Systimax Installation & Maintenance ND3361
    • Corning NPI Membership
  • Basic network knowledge and good experience of a broad range of IT hardware; HP, Dell, Nokia, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper and Arista
  • Understanding of IP networks
  • Experience of working in an ITIL controlled environment with knowledge of Change Control, Incident Management & Problem Management processes
  • Good experience using Microsoft Office and CRM databases
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to manage 3rd party contract staff/companies working within the DC
  • Excellent time management skills
