Job summary

LG Energy Solution Michigan, Inc. is seeking an electrical/automation engineer to program and optimize controls across automated manufacturing lines. You will develop logic for startup, testing and troubleshooting, while integrating bar code, RFID, vision and robotics to improve yield and throughput.

The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external vendors in a highly automated environment, with some on‑call support to resolve urgent production issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or associates in electrical engineering or automation required/preferred.
  • 0–3 years of industrial controls experience, internship or entry-level acceptable.
  • Experience with controls and electrical system design, automation, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Exposure to battery systems is a plus but not required.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Program automation and controls systems for manufacturers using Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Create, monitor, modify logic for design, simulation, testing, startup and troubleshooting.
  • Integrate systems such as bar code, RFID, robots, vision, and sensors; support production.
  • Coordinate with internal/external customers and vendors; on-call support as needed.

Job Overview

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. (LGESMI) develops and manufactures large lithium‑ion polymer batteries and packs for electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage applications. This position is part of a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, troubleshooting equipment and manufacturing problems, analyzing production results, and implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes to ensure high yield and productivity in a highly automated environment. The role involves interaction with internal and external customers and vendors to solve urgent and complex problems, and provides support for all in‑plant production as required. Position requires some on‑call support.

Job Responsibilities
  • Program the automation and controls systems of various manufacturers (Italy, Japan, Korea) using Mitsubishi PLC programming.
  • Create, monitor, and modify logic for program design, simulation and testing, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Manipulate Mitsubishi Q Series PLC, network using CC‑Link & SSCNET III, and control motion with servo motors and robots.
  • Integrate and implement systems such as bar code & RFID reading, robots, ultrasonic welding, vision, weighing scales, and gas sampling.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Bachelor of Science or associate degree in electrical engineering preferred or Automation (or related) required.
  • 0 to 3 years of industrial controls experience—preferably in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co‑op, or entry‑level position.
  • Experience with controls and electrical system design, automation, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing assembly equipment.
  • Proactive, resourceful, highly motivated with good communication skills.
  • Exposure or education in battery systems or processes is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
