Job summary

Dana Corp in Maumee, OH is seeking an Applications Engineer to provide technical support to internal and external customers and to drive the launch process for drivetrain components.

The role involves leading cross-functional teams through design reviews, launches, and production issues, sizing components for vehicle applications, and delivering technical proposals and presentations to customers and Dana stakeholders. International travel may be required.

Qualifications

• BSME preferred; other engineering degrees considered with strong design experience.
• 5+ years' experience in design or manufacture of powertrain components & assemblies for automotive industry.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and strong analytical capability.
• Understanding of engineering prints and specifications.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Strong project management & follow-up skills to handle multiple deadlines.
• Knowledge of automotive quality standards: APQP, DVP&R, 8D, PPAP, VE/VA, FMEA.
• Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Drive the Design Review (Launch) Process with Dana groups to meet program timing.
• Lead programs through critical launch and production issues.
• Provide engineering responsibility for customer product development across multiple programs.
• Use Application Analysis tool to size driveshaft U joint series and tubes for vehicle applications.
• Perform technical problem solving to address issues quickly.
• Develop design proposals to meet customer specs and test requirements.
• Prepare and conduct technical presentations for customers and Dana teams.
• Define proposals including sizing, priority, and requirements per the Design Review Process.
• Develop and manage documents such as DVP&Rs and DFMEAs to support programs.
• Collaborate with Dana internal functions during sourcing, vehicle development, launch, and production.
• Collaborate with external customers and suppliers.
• Interface with customer engineering to support build phases.
• Track and drive Lessons Learned to closure across programs.
• Other duties as requested by Manager.

Job Purpose

The Applications Engineering team is responsible for the technical interface with Dana's global drivetrain customers. The main responsibility of this position is to provide technical support to internal & external customers and drive the launch process.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive the Design Review (Launch) Process by working with the required Dana groups to ensure activities are successfully completed to support the program according to program timing.
• Lead program(s) through critical launch and production issues.
• Engineering responsibility for customer product development, often working on multiple programs at the same time.
• Use Application Analysis tool to develop appropriate product (typically driveshaft U joint series and tube, axle model/gear, gearbox) sizing for vehicle applications.
• Perform technical problem solving to urgently address issues quickly.
• Develop design proposals to meet customer specifications and test requirements.
• Prepare and conduct technical presentations (Customer and Dana internal).
• Define proposals, including sizing, priority, and requirements, following the Design Review Process.
• Develop and manage documents such as DVP&Rs and DFMEAs, etc., to support customer programs.
• Work collaboratively with Dana internal functions - Program Management, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, and Engineering Management during sourcing, vehicle development, launch, and production.
• Work collaboratively with Dana external customers and suppliers.
• Interface with customer engineering and other disciplines as required to provide complete support through all build phases of development.
• Track and drive Lessons Learned items to closure. Provide a read across to various customer programs.

Education and Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) preferred. Consideration may be given to candidates with other engineering degrees such as manufacturing, industrial or aeronautical with strong experience in product design.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in design or manufacture of powertrain components & assemblies for the automotive industry, ideally axle, gearbox, PTU, disconnects, propshaft and eDrive systems.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude, along with strong analytical capability.
• Understanding of engineering prints and specifications.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within Dana and customers in a professional manner. Ability to develop strong customer relationships
• Must have strong project management/follow-up skills in order to organize multiple responsibilities and meet multiple deadlines.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of automotive quality standards including APQP, DVP&R, 8D, PPAP,VE/VA, & FMEA
• Must be self-directed and motivated individual who is willing to accept responsibility.
• Excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
• Willing and able to work excess hours when necessary.
• Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally.
