Job summary

COMPA Industries is looking for up to two Senior Design Engineers to support projects at TA-55 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have expertise in electrical and civil/structural engineering disciplines, and will contribute to facility design, operation, and maintenance.

Responsibilities include leading engineering projects, executing structural design, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Candidates should have at least 9 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, as well as the ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

Senior Design Engineer – Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team

Organization seeks up to two Senior Design Engineers in electrical and civil/structural engineering disciplines to support projects at and around TA‑55.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance, applying broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in complex engineering analyses.
• Execute conventional and unique structural design and analysis, and provide construction and project support.
• Lead projects and supervise the work of others while coordinating inter‑disciplinary activities.
• Work independently and as part of a team, utilizing engineering technology to accomplish work.
• Identify and manage work‑process improvement to meet customer needs.
• Identify system integration activities within and across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
• Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASCE, ASME, NQA‑1, IBC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, etc.).
• Extensive prior experience facilitating design package development and senior‑level understanding of common engineering design document deliverables.
• Experience with common computer‑aided drafting software or mark‑up software.
• Minimum of 9 years of practical work experience; advanced engineering or technical degree highly desired.
• Candidate must be able to obtain and hold a DOE Q clearance and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP); U.S. citizenship required; minimum age 18 for clearance.

Education

• Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university.
• Position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry‑level requirements to ensure employees can successfully perform the job.
