Job summary

FANUC America Corporation in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is seeking an Development Engineer to advance robotic 7th Axis Rail designs and related dress systems for the Product Plus Group. You will focus on mechanical and controls design to drive customer satisfaction and profitability.

The role requires hands-on CAD work, FEA, GD&T, and the ability to create clear prints and electrical interfaces. You will develop new standard rails, validate prototypes, support integrations, and present technical

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Minimum three years of industrial automation design experience with CAD tools.
  • Experience interpreting and creating electrical interface drawings, robot manuals, and mechanical prints.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD drawing suites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new standard rail products.
  • Facilitate testing of new products and prototypes.
  • Validate peripheral rail equipment (lubes, carriers, cabling).
  • Create 3D models and drawings for robotic rails, add-ons, and controller interfaces.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure ISO-compliant engineering accuracy.
  • Provide status updates to project teams and management.
  • Support customers with applications and implementation guidance.
  • Release engineering packages in ERP.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and ISO processes.
  • Manage costs and support production/testing plans.

Who You Are

In this role as an Development Engineer you will be responsible for the development and engineering of robotic 7th Axis Rails and robotic dress designs for the Product Plus Group (PPG). Your focus will be on the mechanical and controls design that helps drive customer satisfaction along with overall company profitability.

Who You Are

In this role as an Development Engineer you will be responsible for the development and engineering of robotic 7th Axis Rails and robotic dress designs for the Product Plus Group (PPG). Your focus will be on the mechanical and controls design that helps drive customer satisfaction along with overall company profitability.

You must be a self-starter, problem-solver with experience in linear axis design, drive sizing, FEA, DFM, and GD&T in various applications and demonstrated ability to develop controls and mechanical prints.

How It’s Done
  • Develop new standard rail products
  • Facilitate testing of new products and prototypes, (rails and rail components)
  • Peripheral rail equipment validation (lube systems, cable carriers, cabling)
  • Develop 3D models and drawings for:
    • Robotic 7th Axis Rail products
    • Add-on / bulkheads
    • Robot controller interface package
  • Hold engineering design reviews and maintain a high level of engineering accuracy following ISO procedures
  • Provide regular communication/status updates to project team members and FAC management
  • Provide customer support including application and implementation guidance and design approvals
  • Release approved engineering packages in ERP
  • Support Continuous Improvement of PPG Engineering Standards and refinement of ISO processes
  • Manage costs through efficient engineering and focus on lower cost solutions
  • Support manufacturing/integration efforts on FAC floor including testing plans for run-off validation and production process plan
  • Create and deliver technical presentations for internal and customer training
  • Support failure analysis and troubleshooting efforts and present root cause and corrective action to customers
  • Support integrators and line builders trying to integrate and install new robotic applications
What You Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or dual background in both) or related technical field; or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Minimum three years of experience of industrial automation design experience with a CAD software package
  • Experience interpreting and creating electrical interface drawings, robot manuals, and mechanical prints
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD drawing suites
What Would Be Even Better
  • Prior experience with robotics in various applications, including robot interfacing and peripheral equipment integration/operation
  • Linear Bearing specification awareness
