Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels in New Orleans is seeking an Engineer to handle the mechanical operation of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, electrical and fire alarm systems, and guestroom systems. You will direct maintenance personnel and oversee preventative maintenance in the plant.

The role requires hands-on technical skills, the ability to work all shifts including holidays, and strong communication to meet guest service standards.

Qualifications

  • Must hold 2 Class Air Conditioning & Boiler Stationary Engineer’s Certificates.
  • Broad, practical experience in stationary engineering, building maintenance, electrical and plumbing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems; replace bearings, belts, piping; maintain preventive maintenance records.
  • Respond promptly to requests and shut down safety-sensitive systems when required.
  • Work with energy management systems and maintain guest room equipment.

Job Description Summary

The position of Engineer is responsible for but not limited to mechanical operation of Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, Electrical systems, Fire alarm systems, HVAC units, Air handler’s, as well as guestroom InnComm system. Directs maintenance personnel and conducts repairs as well as preventative maintenance in the plant.

Key Job Functions
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems, make repairs as follows: replace bearings and belts and check for proper alignment, repair fan coil units, replace piping and fittings and maintain appropriate records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Respond to requests and make the necessary repairs in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Assist with requests to shut down water, steam and gas supplies.
  • Change filters on HVAC and fan coil units.
  • Ability to understand guests’ service needs & requests.
  • Ability to acknowledge guests’ requests in a polite manner.
  • Ability to work all shifts as needed, including holidays, weekends, and vacation/sick relief and during hurricanes.
  • Mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work with computerized energy management systems.
  • Good communication skills and ability to have good judgment.
  • May be required to perform other duties as required by engineering management.

Qualifications And Skills
  • Must have a minimum 2 Class Air Conditioning & Boiler Stationary Engineer’s Certificates.
  • Minimum 5 years in school and/or hands‑on work experience in buildings with complex plumbing systems.
  • Individual should have broad, practical experience in the fields of stationary engineering, building maintenance, electrical and plumbing.
  • Candidate must be familiar hotel systems and equipment in order to make repair within the building preferred.
Education
Education and/or Experience
  • Must have engineering experience and 2nd class Boilers and a 2nd class Air conditioning/Refrigeration license.
  • Must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
