Job description

Average Annual Salary: $92,785 + up to a $16,914 BONUS

This is the average annual salary not the base pay featured in the job opportunity announcement. All calculations include CIVMAR total take-home pay (including overtime, penalty, etc.).

DUTIES
  • Assist in operation and maintenance of all engine room machinery.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on portable water, sanitary and drainage systems throughout the ship.
  • Conduct general housekeeping (cleaning & painting) throughout engineering spaces.
  • Make rounds on engines and auxiliaries, monitoring temperatures, pressures and other parameters to ensure machinery is operated within safe, standard industry practices.
  • Monitor evaporator operations ensuring necessary temperatures, pressure and water levels are maintained.
  • Ensure quality of evaporator output and feed storage tanks through salinity testing.
  • Ensure correct distribution of evaporator output.
  • Operate boilers by tending fires, controlling fuel-air flow, cutting fires in and out, maintaining correct water level, operating soot blowers, controlling feed pump, and repairing minor leaks on the boiler front.
  • Directly responsible to the First Assistant Engineer.
REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a United States citizen of at least 18 years of age.
  • U.S. Regular Passport (also referred to as a tourist or blue passport) with a minimum of seven (7) months of expiration date.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and/or Department of Defense (DOD) Common Access Card (CAC) with a minimum of ten (10) months remaining of expiration.
  • United States Coast Guard (USCG) Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC), with a minimum of ten months remaining of expiration date.

Position Specific Requirements:

  • MMC endorsement(s): Fireman/Oiler and Watertender (FOWT) or Junior Engineer or Engineman or Deck Engineer Mechanic or any unlicensed rating in the Engine Department.
  • STCW certificate endorsed as Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW) Able Seafarer Engine, valid for steam or motor propulsion.
