Job summary

Holt CAT in Irving, TX is hiring a full-time Engine Shop Service Technician for the 2nd shift (3 PM–1 AM). The role involves disassembly, inspection, and repair of industrial gas and diesel engines, following established procedures to meet customer needs and department goals.

You will perform engine work with hand, pneumatic, and specialized tools, maintain a clean work area, and follow safety policies while coordinating with the team on estimates, parts, and timely service.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have hand and pneumatic tools.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and assemble industrial gas or diesel engines to manufacturer specifications using hand, pneumatic, and specialized tools.
  • Estimate, plan, and control the cost of repair jobs.
  • Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
  • Maintain equipment and the work area in a clean, safe condition.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Participate in training paths to update technical knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full‑time 2nd shift Engine Shop Service Technician position available at our Irving, Texas location. The hours of the position are Monday‑Friday from 3 PM to 1 AM. This position demonstrates the ability to perform basic to moderate inspections, and basic to moderate diagnoses, and has the ability and knowledge to repair natural gas or diesel engines or related components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.

Essential Functions
  • Performs disassembly and assembly of industrial gas or diesel engines or related components to manufacturer's specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Demonstrates knowledge of estimating, planning, and controlling the cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of industrial natural gas or diesel engines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Quality control analysis skills – conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Operation and control skills – controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills – determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Additional Requirements
  • Must have hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
  • Must have appropriate tooling equipment to complete the job
Requirements

Education and Experience: Two or more years of work‑related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/ descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment
  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • The noise level may be loud at times
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
Travel
  • Travel may be required for training
