Holt CAT is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Power Systems Division in Irving, Texas. You will perform high‑quality field service and repair work on industrial or natural gas engines, traveling locally to respond to customer needs and ensure value for work performed.

The role requires 3+ years of engine repair experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain CDL if needed. DOT compliance and safety training are essential, with overtime as required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform complex repairs in the field on industrial engines and transmissions.
  • Removes and installs parts; disassembles and reassembles components to CAT specifications.
  • Complete service reports, order parts, and maintain customer records.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with required licenses; comply with DOT rules.
  • Mentor lower-level technicians and maintain professionalism with customers.

Field Service Technician 3 - Engine

Department: Power Systems Division (PSD)

Employment Type: Full Time

Description

Holt CAT is seeking an experienced Engine Field Service Technician for the Power Systems Division in Irving, Texas. This position is responsible for performing high‑quality field service repair work on industrial or natural gas engines in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed. A valid driver's license and the ability to travel in the local region are required. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Must have a safe driving record and be able to pass and maintain a DOT Physical. Travel will be required.

Essential Functions
  • Troubleshoot and perform complex repairs correctly in the field such as industrial engines and transmissions.
  • 3 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills in industrial engines and transmissions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment using electronic and manual equipment to determine failure. CAT ET & CAT SIS 2.0 knowledge preferred.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards. Performs basic to intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision.
  • Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications.
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level Technicians.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses.

  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • More than three years of industrial engine repair experience is required; five or more years preferred.
  • Diesel Technology schooling preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel:

  • Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

Work Environment:

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment.
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
