Job summary

Epic Games is seeking an Engine Programmer Intern to join the Fortnite Online team for the 2027 season. You’ll support a variety of systems and features for our Engine and Fortnite, working on online gameplay technology and tools.

Qualifications

ENGINE PROGRAMMER INTERN

What You’ll Do

Epic Games is looking for an Engine Programmer Intern to join them for the 2027 season. Working on our Fortnite Online team, you’ll be supporting a multitude of systems and features for our Engine and Fortnite.

If it’s an online game feature, we touch it. Epic engineers wear many hats. As an intern, you are provided with a meaningful experience with high expectations for performance. If you want to build something Epic, this is the opportunity for you!

In this role, you will

• Work closely with the Fortnite Online team (FNO) by architecting, developing, and maintaining shared online gameplay technology
• Contribute to the online systems and toolsets used by licensees in the Unreal Engine as well as online features and services used by Fortnite and other games at Epic
• Develop solutions to various technical challenges from initial concept to final shipped code and ensure that it is stable for our players once released

What we’re looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline required, with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills strongly desired
• Demonstrable proficiency in object-oriented programming and C++ required, with familiarity with Java considered a plus
• Demonstrable knowledge of networking, REST, and utilizing back-end services with resiliency in mind
• Demonstrated interest in online multiplayer games, and interest in games as a service also a plus
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine or UEFN is strongly desired
• Technical portfolio demonstrating programming work in a student or internship environment, or game/feature development, with examples of code and experience developing online features, tools, or other relevant projects strongly desired
• Strong preference for demonstrating AI usage and leveraging LLMs for code and tooling development

This internship has a flexible start date in 2027. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match.
