Job summary

Epic Games invites applications for a Tools Programmer Intern to join the Build Operations - Tools team. You will help create and improve internal tools used for Fortnite, Unreal Engine, and other Epic products, enabling faster builds, tests, and feature delivery.

You’ll write tests, instrument telemetry, and collaborate across engineering and content teams to solve complex challenges that enhance stability and efficiency in game development workflows.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on game features or technology with C#.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn C++.
  • Experience with UX and using GUI frameworks.
  • Comfort managing agentic workflows and AI-assisted coding.
  • A passion for maximizing developer efficiency and product quality.
  • An interest in game engines and game development concepts such as scripting, exporters, data processing, packaging, deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and improve tools and platforms used by developers working at Epic
  • Write unit and functional tests that ensure the quality of the tools we release
  • Instrument telemetry and visualize/report tools usage with data transformation
  • Create and improve workflows for Unreal Editor, Unreal Editor for Fortnite, Fortnite and other products
  • Work closely with QA and other developers to streamline/optimize human interactions and problem solving
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of engineering and content creation teams to solve complex technical challenges that make an impact on the stability and quality of game development build operations

TOOLS PROGRAMMER INTERN
What You'll Do

As part of the Build Operations - Tools team you’ll be working on internal tools and technology used to make Fortnite, Unreal Engine, and other products at Epic!

You’ll be working on tools that improve how our team writes software, builds, tests, and delivers features and prevents defects. We believe in user experience flow, automation, continuous integration, testing, and analytics are key to maximizing a development team’s effectiveness.

Most importantly you’ll work with a creative, energetic, and fun team to continue making the Epic Metaverse one of the most popular and engaging gaming ecosystems in the world!

In this role, you will
  • Create and improve tools and platforms used by developers working at Epic

This internship has a flexible start date in 2027. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match.
