Job summary

City of San Antonio is seeking a part-time to temporary classroom assistant for Pre-K 4 SA. You will support early learning experiences, prepare materials, and help with student growth while ensuring safety and compliance with licensing standards.

Position involves assisting with bus loading/unloading, coordinating activities, and maintaining classroom order. High school diploma required; bilingual preferred. Work hours vary by department needs, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by TEA or regional accrediting agency).
• Knowledge of child behavior management.
• Knowledge of safe and appropriate activities for students.
• Knowledge of student discipline procedures.
• Knowledge of basic bus safety rules.
• Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software.
• Skill in use of classroom and instructional equipment.
• Skill in organizing, planning and prioritizing work.
• Skill in resolving conflicts and negotiating with others.

Responsibilities

• Assists with implementation of early-age curriculum in the classroom.
• Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment and materials.
• Observes students' progress and communicates with other educators.
• Delivers instructional material to students in groups and individually.
• Maintains student records and prepares reports related to performance, attendance, meals, safety, licensing standards, etc.
• Assists in maintaining order in the classroom and with supervision of students.
• Monitors and assists at transportation sites, classroom, and other areas to promote a positive school culture.
• Maintains open communication with parents.
• May assist students loading, riding, and unloading buses.
• Assists with safety routines and use of child restraint systems during transportation.
• Collaborates with Master Teachers and/or Assistant Teachers during breaks.
• Participates in required professional development.
• May be required to lift and move students weighing up to 50 pounds.
