Job summary

The City of Durango is seeking a Child Care Attendant for the Recreation Center’s Babysitting Room. You will supervise children up to age 8, plan age-appropriate crafts, and create a safe, engaging space under the Parks and Recreation team.

Ideal candidates will have education or training with children, experience in childcare, and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification. This on-site role emphasizes organization, communication, and caring service to families in our community.

Qualifications

• Education or training in working with children through recreation, education, scouting, 4-H, or related setting.
• Experience in childcare, school, camp, or similar setting preferred.
• Ability to obtain CPR, first aid, and AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children up to age 8 continuously while in the Babysitting Room.
• Take initiative in developing and leading crafts and activities.
• Communicate clear expectations and directions to children and Babysitting Room users.
• Monitor children and activities to maintain a safe and appropriate environment.
• Keep the Babysitting Room organized, clean, and tidy.
• Verify payment or membership access for Babysitting Room users.
• Confirm that children are released only to authorized individuals.
• Maintain required Babysitting Room records and paperwork.
• Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Arrive on time and prepared for assigned shifts.
• Follow department policies and procedures and represent the City of Durango professionally.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
