Job summary

City of Durango is seeking a part-time Program Leader to run youth recreation programs for children ages 9 and older. You will guide Youth Dungeons & Dragons Club sessions and support the Teen Art Lounge, fostering teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.

Experience in coaching or mentoring is valued; CPR/First Aid certification is required or obtainable. This role includes city facility perks and opportunities to contribute to community initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience in coaching, childcare, mentorship, or related roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.
  • General knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Youth Dungeons & Dragons Club player groups with the Recreation Specialist and Program Coordinator.
  • Assist with participant registrations.
  • Lead weekly sessions based on pre-written campaigns, guiding group dynamics.
  • Improvise based on player interests to support growth and enjoyment.
  • Set up and clean up each session.
  • Communicate with parents and players with necessary information and updates.
  • Support Teen Art Lounge and other youth recreation events.

Job description

Calling all Dungeon Masters* and art enthusiasts! We’re looking for a Part-Time Program Leader to join our team. In this role, you’ll help lead youth recreational programs for children ages 9 and older. You'll guide immersive storytelling experiences, fostering teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity through our popular Youth Dungeons & Dragons Club. You’ll also assist in the Teen Art Lounge and support other youth programs and events as needed.

*Experience with Dungeons & Dragons is a plus, but mastery is not required.

What You’ll Do in This Role
  • Work directly with the Recreation Specialist and Program Coordinator to lead Youth Dungeons & Dragons Club player groups.
  • Assist with the registration of participants.
  • Lead weekly Youth Dungeons & Dragons sessions based on pre-written campaigns, guiding participants through campaigns and encouraging positive group dynamics.
  • Improvise based on player and group interests and creativity, prioritizing player growth and enjoyment.
  • Set up and clean up each session.
  • Communicate with parents and players to provide necessary information and updates.
  • Support other youth recreation events and programs, including the Teen Art Lounge
In addition to being at least 18 years of age, you have
  • CPR/First Aide/AED certification, or the ability to get certified.
  • The ability to work with children and/or teens; experience in coaching, childcare, mentorship roles, or closely related experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of appropriate techniques for dealing with conflict resolution and disputes.
  • General knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons preferred.
