Job summary

Network180 is seeking an Engagement Specialist for the Access Services unit in Grand Rapids. This full-time, non-exempt role involves working four 10‑hour shifts weekly, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, primarily on site at Mel Totter Ministries.

You will engage with individuals to support care, follow-up, and connection to recovery resources. Qualifications include a GED, Peer Recovery Coach status or plan to obtain, stable recovery, and strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach or plan to obtain within 2 years.
  • In stable recovery and actively participating in a recovery program.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge about substance use disorders related to recovery and crisis planning.
  • Able to work in multicultural settings and bridge language/cultural barriers.
  • Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an Engagement Specialist. This position is located at Mel Totter Ministries and Network180 site(s).

The Engagement Specialist will ensure individuals understand their care, assisting them with medical follow-through, building rapport and following up after appointments to encourage honest/accurate communication and reporting of symptoms/problems to the medical team. The Engagement Specialist will determine which individuals may need to be directed to behavioral health screening and assisting them in access; assist individuals towards harm reduction, wellness, and readiness for treatment.

When working as part of the community based program, engagement specialists will collaborate with partner programs such as Catherine's Health Center, Homeless Outreach, Mobile Crisis Response, GRPD Co response, and Mel Trotter Ministries. These programs will refer individuals to peer recovery services, and engagement specialists will respond directly in the community to support those referrals.

This is a full-time position working four 10-hour shifts per week from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM The schedule rotates on a two-week cycle: Week 1 is Monday through Thursday, and Week 2 is Tuesday through Friday. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week. This assignment is in person at Mel Trotter Ministries, 225 Commerce Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 and Network180 site(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach or willingness to create a plan to obtain State Certification as a Peer Recovery Coach within two years of employment.
  • In stable recovery.
  • Actively participating in a recovery program (12 step, church/spiritual, or other recovery support group).
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use.
  • Knowledge about substance use disorders as it pertains to recovery and crisis planning.
  • Work effectively in a multicultural environment and skills and capabilities of bridging language/cultural barriers to Network180 services within diverse communities.
  • Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
