Job summary

The Director of Engagement at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago & Chicago Lights leads a comprehensive, hospitality-focused path from first contact to active participation, service, and leadership. You will partner with pastors, ministry staff, and volunteers to create clear pathways that welcome newcomers and strengthen belonging.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in theology, divinity, nonprofit management, organizational leadership, social work, or related field.
• At least five years of leadership experience in congregational life or nonprofit engagement.
• Experience developing systems moving people from initial interest to sustained participation.
• Experience supervising staff and fostering a healthy team culture.
• Proven success recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers.
• Strong relationship-building and cross-generational engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a comprehensive congregational engagement strategy from first contact to active participation.
• Oversee follow-up, welcoming, and integration of newcomers.
• Plan membership exploration and new-member welcome with pastors and leaders.
• Foster opportunities for staff and volunteers to build genuine connections.
• Develop data systems and dashboards to monitor engagement health.
• Supervise the Director of Volunteer Ministry and support staff development.
