Responsibilities

  • Enforces and monitors Parking and Transportation decks, lots, and facilities; assists subscribers and visitors; ensures policy compliance and reliable service.

  • Daily patrols and inspections to maintain safety and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Issues citations and enforces parking regulations; reports to supervisor for actions.
  • Monitors parking inventory and coordinates with staff for events and special assignments.
  • Oversees traffic control devices and ensures safety in pedestrian/vehicular areas.
  • Handles customer inquiries promptly and professionally; provides directions and assistance as needed.

Department: Parking and Transportation

Duties & Responsibilities

VCU has an exciting opportunity for an Enforcement and Safety Officer in VCU's Campus Enterprises for their Parking and Transportation Services unit.

The Enforcement and Safety Officer enforces and monitors all VCU Parking and Transportation decks, lots, and other facilities and locations; provides assistance to subscribers, visitors, and our surrounding community partners; ensures compliance with University, state, and federal policies and that all Operations' services are delivered efficiently, reliably, and with service excellence to the VCU and VCU Health System communities.

Parking Facility Safety
  • Acts as point of contact with VCU Police, VCUHS Security, and other public safety agencies to implement the University's comprehensive safety plan when Supervisor is not available
  • Daily patrols of all assigned facilities and properties to help ensure the safety of all patrons
  • Daily inspections of all assigned facilities and properties to ensure the cleanliness of those properties
  • Actively observes pedestrian and vehicular traffic in all assigned facilities for safety and security hazards, steps in and solves traffic jams
  • Reports any issues/problems found when performing the above duties and suspicious situations to immediate supervisor using two-way radio/cellular phones
Parking Enforcement
  • Provides uniform interpretation and enforcement of parking regulations as trained
  • Issues citations to vehicles parked illegally in VCU operated facilities. Identifies vehicles which may be subject to towing or immobilization and reports to supervisor for action
  • Issues citations via the LPR system to suspected employee vehicles parking in VCUHS visitor facilities
  • Ensures proper automobile immobilization and towing procedure are followed in accordance with stated practices and training received
  • Reports any areas that appear to be developing a trend for enforcement so it can be investigated
  • Uses proper equipment (LPR) correctly and how trained in order to successfully enforcing parking regulations
Parking Inventory
  • Collects and reports vacancy counts for selected parking facilities daily to Supervisor
  • Works with staff to ensure proper control and handling of special events, approved requests, or special assignments as assigned by Supervisor
  • Systematically monitors decks to ensure subscribers are afforded parking at their assigned locations, reports issues to Supervisor proactively
Property Management
  • Ensures traffic control (ex. barricades, traffic cones, tape) devices are retrieved at the end of an event or within 24 hours of project completion and returned to assigned storage areas
  • Inspect facilities for adequate lighting, maintenance issues, and cleanliness as required by policy and procedure
  • Responsible for daily preventive maintenance checks of all assigned equipment including parking enforcement and safety vehicles
  • Daily account for all issued equipment including but not limited to: radios, T2/Flex handhelds, and traffic wands
  • Removal of debris from pedestrian and vehicular thoroughfares during inclement weather including but not limited to: snow/ice/water/direct with shovel or other equipment provided
Customer Inquiries
  • Provides quick and friendly response to motorist assistance requests
  • Receives all customer inquiries professionally and courteously
  • Investigates all reports of possible hazards in a timely manner, reports results to Supervisor, and if necessary, provides feedback to reporting customer
  • Provides directions and help as requested by Supervisor, guests or staff as needed
  • Provides customer assistance including but not limited to: jump starts, assists in changing a flat tire, and providing directions
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record of 0 or + points
  • Ability to successfully complete all training
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, and shift work
  • Ability to interact with coworkers to accomplish goals of the department successfully in a team environment
  • Basic computer and time management skills
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience in a university setting
Salary Range

$37,200
