We are looking for an experienced Energy Storage Engineer who will play a key role in leading and executing tasks that support client needs while contributing to the growth and advancement of CEA's energy storage technical services platform. This role involves working directly with clients, including some of the world's largest renewable energy companies-to provide technical assessments, project evaluations, and quality control for energy storage systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in energy storage technologies, particularly lithium-ion batteries, and be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously while engaging clients and internal teams.

  • Conduct independent engineering reviews of energy storage projects, including system designs and technical specifications.
  • Develop and review technical proposals for energy storage projects, including scope, deliverables, timelines, and budgets.
  • Perform technical due diligence on energy storage systems, components, and configurations, including battery management systems and performance guarantees.
  • Lead onsite quality control audits to inspect and test energy storage materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Assess contractual agreements between energy storage system buyers and suppliers to identify potential risks.
  • Develop technical reports on energy storage hardware/software, system design, and performance analysis.
  • Maintain relationships with ESS equipment suppliers and stay updated on industry advancements in battery chemistry, power conversion systems (PCS), and energy management systems (EMS).
  • Support the development of energy storage-related content, including white papers, presentations, and webinars.
  • Work collaboratively across teams to manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and budget-conscious execution.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in energy storage system design, performance analysis, and modeling for large-scale (>10MW) systems, ideally solar & storage, OR 3+ years of experience with lithium-ion or alternative battery technologies.
  • Basic understanding of electrochemistry for batteries and basic performance testing, as well as energy storage performance metrics, including round-trip efficiency, cycle degradation, depth of discharge, and state of charge.
  • Ability to perform detailed technical due diligence on energy storage systems and provide industry-leading reports.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills. PMP certifcation is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for site visits and client engagements. Ability to work outdoors including but not limited to desert areas, long hours standing, climbing stairs and ladders when visiting client sites.
