Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking an energy research professional to perform studies on energy efficiency, demand response, DERs, and electrification potential, including forecasting work. You will develop datasets, perform analyses, interpret results, and support quality assurance across project activities.

You will lead data-driven modelling tools for planning with DERs, support market and policy research for stakeholders, and collaborate with analysts to share best practices.

Job description

What You’ll Do

• Conduct and support studies on energy efficiency, demand response, distributed energy resources, and building and transportation electrification potential, including forecasting-related work.
• Carry out research, develop datasets, perform analysis, interpret results, and support quality assurance across project activities.
• Lead and contribute to the development of data-driven modelling tools that help clients understand how demand-side resources connect with system planning.
• Support demand flexibility studies, benefit-cost analysis, utility program benchmarking, and market, policy, and regulatory research for a wide range of energy-sector stakeholders.
• Assess market opportunities and barriers related to load flexibility, DERs, hybrid DER products, and related business models.
• Serve as a technical lead on project-based teams delivering strategic research studies and analytical work.
• Support client engagement, proposal or work plan development, deliverable preparation, and presentation of findings.
• Work collaboratively with analysts and consultants to promote strong performance, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Translate data analysis into clear conclusions and practical recommendations for client reports and professional publications.
• Help develop, maintain, and refine models and tools used for strategic planning, non-wires alternative screening, potential studies, DER adoption analysis, and forecasting.
• Provide technical guidance to researchers and consultants while collaborating with project managers and team members to share best practices.
• Collaborate with DNV teams across North America and globally, including Digitalization & Analytics, Design & Evaluation, Engineering & Technology, Power System Advisory, Storage and Grid Edge, and Renewables Advisory, to identify opportunities for innovation and develop effective client solutions.
