Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering an internship in the Gas and Electric Distribution Planning team in Minnesota. You will contribute to distribution system and utility resource planning, working with engineers and data analysts to forecast energy needs and support regulatory filings.

The internship runs with a May 24, 2027 start date, offering exposure to both electric and natural gas planning, potentially extending beyond the initial term based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

• Enrollment as a student in a college/university and pursuing a degree in a technical or analytical field.
• Ability to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).
• Interest in energy systems, utility planning, or infrastructure planning.

Responsibilities

• Support analytical, strategic, and technical projects related to distribution system and utility resource planning.
• Collaborate with planners, engineers, and data analysts to forecast energy needs and support regulatory filings.
• Gain hands-on experience with utility data, forecasting methods, and decarbonization strategies.
• Analyze distributed energy resources, electrification trends, and load growth for investment planning.
