Job description

As a result of continued company growth, we are looking for an experienced BMS engineer to join the Energy Optimisation team within our Solutions department. Our Solutions department are responsible for creating and implementing cost-effective, low-carbon energy solutions to our public and private sector customers across the UK. As a member of the Energy Optimisation team, you will contribute to the design, delivery, and verification of our BMS energy conservation initiatives. You will also provide BMS support to our wider low-carbon energy solutions and the project delivery teams. Projects you will be involved in will include the optimisation of existing BMS control strategies, the partial and full upgrade of obsolete BMS controls and associated network infrastructure, and the integration, control, and monitoring of low carbon solutions such as Solar PV, heat pumps, and hydronic system optimisation. Our established Energy Optimisation team have successfully delivered £16m+ BMS energy conservation initiatives and are currently delivering a further £23m+ critical to £500m+ in wider energy performance contracts. If you are an experienced BMS engineer with a passion and interest in supporting the drive to Net Zero, this is the ideal role for you! The Role As the BMS optimisation project engineer you will work closely with the team on all aspects of our BMS energy conservation initiatives.

  • Carry out detailed surveys of BMS and controlled HVAC equipment to support the identification of BMS and HVAC energy conservation initiatives.
  • Assess the baseline performance of BMS control strategies through the interrogation of strategy drawings, O&M documentation, and observed operating conditions.
  • Identify and collect existing BMS logs, or setup new logging as applicable, to support the modelling of potential BMS and HVAC energy savings initiatives.
  • Work closely with our BMS subcontractor supply chain to design and cost BMS energy conservation initiatives for EPC tenders, high-level assessment, and investment grade proposals.
  • Work closely with BMS subcontractor supply chain to create, review, and seek client approval of BMS reviewable design data such as control's philosophy, risk assessment, method statement, and impact assessment.
  • Work closely with our project design and delivery teams to ensure BMS initiatives are delivered to the agreed design specifications within timeframe and budget.
  • Support the commissioning, witness testing, and handover of delivered BMS energy savings initiatives.
  • Support the measurement and verification of guaranteed energy savings.

The ideal candidate will be a hardworking and self-motivated individual with demonstrable experience delivering BMS optimisation and upgrade projects. They will have experience working with BMS subcontractors and wider project delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered to specification and within agreed budget and timeframes. Experience of energy savings initiatives would be advantageous but is not essential. Strong knowledge and practical experience in the design and operation of BMS and HVAC control strategies.

  • Proven experience delivering BMS projects in collaboration with BMS subcontractors and wider project teams, ensuring alignment with project specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Familiarity with integrating HVAC plant into BMS systems along with a working knowledge of common high-level communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and M-Bus.
  • Exposure to working with IT teams to support infrastructure upgrades and assist in the transition from proprietary BMS networks to modern Ethernet-based systems.
