Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking an experienced Energy Marshal to lead electrical safety on major data center projects across data center construction and commissioning; this 100% travel role offers growth opportunities and competitive compensation.

You will oversee energy isolation, LOTO procedures, develop EIPs, coordinate with contractors, and ensure OSHA, NFPA 70E, and NEC compliance while maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Energy Marshal or LOTO Coordinator.
• Experience on data center or large electrical construction projects.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E, OSHA, NEC.
• Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams.
• Willingness to travel extensively and stay away during work weeks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee electrical energy isolation and LOTO activities on site.
• Develop and enforce Energy Isolation Plans and energisation procedures.
• Coordinate energisation between contractors, commissioning teams, clients, and site management.
• Ensure LOTO procedures are applied correctly prior to work.
• Audit permits and safety documentation before energisation.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure OSHA/NFPA/NEC compliance.
• Support commissioning while energising critical systems.
• Lead safety briefings and hazard control guidance.
• Investigate electrical safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain documentation for energy isolation activities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the site's Energy Marshal, overseeing all electrical energy isolation and LOTO activities throughout construction and commissioning.
• Develop, review and enforce Energy Isolation Plans (EIPs), switching procedures and project-specific energisation plans.
• Coordinate all planned energisation activities between contractors, commissioning teams, clients and site management.
• Ensure all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures are implemented correctly and safely before work commences.
• Verify permits, switching documentation and electrical safety paperwork prior to energisation.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC and client safety requirements.
• Support commissioning activities while ensuring safe energisation of electrical systems including switchgear, UPS systems, generators and critical infrastructure.
• Lead safety briefings, toolbox talks and provide technical guidance on hazardous energy control.
• Investigate electrical safety incidents, near misses and non-conformances, implementing corrective actions where required.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records relating to all energy isolation and energisation activities.

Skills/Must Have

• Previous experience as an Energy Marshal, LOTO Coordinator, Electrical Safety Coordinator, Authorised Person (AP) or similar electrical safety role.
• Experience working on data centers, mission critical, industrial, utility or large-scale electrical construction projects.
• Strong understanding of Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and hazardous energy control.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Experience working around electrical distribution systems including switchgear, UPS, generators, transformers and critical power infrastructure.
• Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams and switching procedures.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work alongside multiple contractors and stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home during the working week.
