Job summary

Marathon Capital in Chicago is seeking an experienced Investment Banking Associate to support energy-focused advisory and execution, lead junior banker workstreams, and collaborate with senior bankers on deal origination, execution, distribution, and closing.

You will build financial models, perform industry research, and prepare marketing materials while developing sector expertise across renewable and conventional power, energy storage, and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, sustainable energy, or closely related field with 4+ years of experience and/or MBA with 1+ year in investment banking.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of renewable and conventional power generation, energy storage, or energy infrastructure a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial analysis and create detailed financial models for valuation and pro forma analysis.
• Lead and manage junior banker workstreams in support of firm mandates.
• Develop sector expertise in renewable and conventional power generation, power utilities, energy storage, and infrastructure.
• Assess strengths and risks of client positioning and perform due diligence on clients and targets.
• Support capital raises and M&A by preparing offering materials and distribution lists.
• Pursue business development initiatives to enhance the firm’s competitive position.
• Work directly with senior bankers in a leading energy investment banking firm.
