POSITION SUMMARY:

The Energy Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of renewable energy projects for the benefit of the Bay Mills Indian Community. This role involves managing all aspects of the project lifecycle, from conceptual design and financial planning to construction and final commissioning. The Energy Facilities Manager will ensure projects meet deadlines, stay within budget, comply with environmental regulations, and align with organizational sustainability goals. They coordinate cross-functional teams, liaise with stakeholders, and mitigate risks to ensure successful project delivery.? The Energy Facilities Manager will meet academic and professional qualifications, demonstrate dedication to excellent member service, and support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Indian Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Provide technical expertise and daily oversight of renewable energy systems, including the construction, operation, and maintenance of solar installations and battery energy storage systems.
  • 2. Ensure contract compliance, monitor project development and construction status, and report on financial and operational performance for operating renewable projects.
  • 3. Contract for site services such as electric, fire inspection, lawn mowing, etc.
  • 4. Provide routine visual monitoring of the BESS, collection system, pad mount transformers, junction boxes, electrical, structural, foundations, civil, laydown areas, crane pads, roads, fences, gates, met towers, communications and SCADA works.
  • 5. Work with a contractor to develop and implement an EPA approved Quality Assurance Project Plan.
  • 6. Develop technical materials for facility management and operation, make presentations on technical topics; maintain contacts with engineering associations, utilities, vendors and manufacturers of energy waste reduction products and services.
  • 7. Assist with Bay Mills Community College Workforce Development Program, as needed.
  • 8. Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, including delays, budget overruns, environmental impact, and safety hazards.
  • 9. Develop and implement strategies for refurbishment and end-of-life recycling and disposal of renewable energy systems when they reach the end of their lifespan.
  • 10. Review program proposals, calculate potential energy and economic benefits, assist with quantifying outcomes, and consult on energy savings measurement and verification.
  • 11. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position’s essential functions.
  • 12. Must attend all mandatory trainings designated through the Human Resources Department and/or Department Director.
Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Technologies, Sustainable Business Management, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Resource Management, or other related fields.
  • 2. Experience with energy technologies, grant management, reporting, and energy program development;
  • 3. Minimum of 5 years of solar site manager experience and preferably 10 years of solar operations or utility experience, preferred
  • 4. At least 2 years of substation, collection, transmission equipment operation and maintenance experience, preferred
  • 5. Experience in data management, reporting, or analytics, preferably in the energy sector.
  • 6. Ability to work with partners and other agencies
  • 7. Strong organization skills and ability to manage a diverse array of responsibilities/ activities
  • 8. Knowledge and experience in budget management and development
  • 9. Working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), energy technology software.
  • 10. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good technical writing, oral communication and presentation skills
  • 11. Must have an excellent past work record as demonstrated from reports from past employment references
  • 12. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.

  • 14. Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, privacy, and confidentiality.
