New York, NY (Hybrid)

Join Us

For over 20 years Bright Power has been a transformative player in clean energy and sustainable housing. Our clients include affordable-housing owners and developers, Fortune 1000 financial and real-estate firms, privately held firms, and some of the nation's largest property managers. We're passionate about reducing energy and water use through energy-efficiency and renewable technologies, improving the health, comfort, and value of our clients' buildings while cultivating a sustainable future.

Responsibilities
  • Run construction oversight as part of the owner's-representative team on multifamily retrofit projects — coordinating contractors, reviewing installations, and managing scope, schedule, and quality in the field.
  • Lead commissioning (Cx) and retro-commissioning (RCx), including functional performance testing, verifying that installed systems (heat pumps, boiler plants, ventilation, controls) perform as designed.
  • Own incentive and rebate procurement — preparing applications and documentation for NYSERDA (e.g., Clean Heat, Low Carbon Pathways), Con Edison, and utility programs, and coordinating with program administrators.
  • Drive scoping and design development — building-systems assessments, Basis of Design, equipment selection, and contractor RFP packages — for electrification and efficiency measures (air-source and coldclimate heat pumps, PTHPs, central CO2 DHW heat pumps, steam/hydronic optimization, ventilation overhauls, TRVs, and heating controls).
  • Perform energy analysis, modeling, and ASHRAE Level I/II audits to quantify savings and inform measures.
  • Contribute to LL97 decarbonization and capital planning for multifamily portfolios.
  • GROWTH (technical track): ramp from running projects with light oversight to independently owning multifamily retrofits end-to-end, growing into the Senior Energy Engineer role — no people-management required.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or a related discipline + 4–5 years in energy efficiency, OR Master's + 2–3 years — OR equivalent building-science background with comparable hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on experience with building systems (HVAC, domestic hot water, steam/hydronic, electrical, controls), ideally in multifamily buildings.
  • Demonstrated implementation experience — construction/installation coordination, commissioning, and/or incentive procurement — with enough independence to run projects under light oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable coordinating with contractors, clients, and program administrators.
  • Able to work a hybrid schedule commutable to our NYC office (17 State St).
Preferred
  • Commissioning / retro-commissioning experience, or owner's-representative / construction-management exposure on building projects.
  • Incentive-program experience (NYSERDA, Con Edison Clean Heat, utility programs; IRA 45L/179D a plus).
  • Heat-pump electrification and multifamily systems experience (steam/hydronic, boiler plants, ventilation, DHW).
  • Energy modeling (eQUEST, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, OpenStudio/EnergyPlus) and ASHRAE Level I/II audits.
  • Familiarity with NYC Local Laws relevant to building energy (LL97, LL87, LL84) — trainable, but a plus.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or willingness to pursue; PE a plus. Proficiency in MS Office.

Salary: $85,000 - $105,000
