Job summary

Power TakeOff is seeking an Energy Efficiency Engineer to lead technical efforts for VCx and vSEM programs. You’ll advise large commercial/industrial sites on optimal controls to unlock energy savings, while supporting new energy management initiatives.

This role reports to the Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager within the Portfolio Management team. You will work in a fully virtual environment, collaborating with Energy Advisors and coaches, developing materials, and advancing M&V

Qualifications

• PE or P.Eng license or EIT status from an accredited program; bachelor’s degree required.
• 3+ years of energy advising, DSM program delivery, or SEM coaching for large facilities.
• Technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, lighting; industrial operations preferred.
• Excellent facilitation and communication; strong analytics; project management; Salesforce proficiency.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science preferred.
• CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE or equivalent certification preferred.
• Comfortable working independently in a 100% virtual environment.
• Interest in energy efficiency consulting and positive impact.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Energy Efficiency Engineer will be a technical lead for Power TakeOff’s two key utility offerings: our Virtual Commissioning (VCx) and Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) programs, as well as provide technical support for other new energy management initiatives. This role will serve as a central knowledge expert for HVAC, controls, and energy efficiency best practices; advising customers at large commercial, institutional, and manufacturing sites on optimal controls to uncover deep, low/no-cost energy efficiency opportunities.

This role is part of Power Takeoff’s internal Technical Team, and you will report to the Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager within Power TakeOff’s Portfolio Management team.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Engagement: Work alongside Energy Advisors and vSEM coaches to analyze interval energy usage data, identify key drivers of energy use, and discover low and no-cost energy savings measures in virtual consultations at customer facilities including commercial and industrial sites. Help the vSEM coaches develop technical material for the ongoing vSEM workshops.


• Technical Resource Development and Training: Contribute to research and documentation to help shape internal resources and best practices for technical engagement. Monitor the performance of Energy Advisors, collaborating with the Technical Team manager to identify training needs and opportunities for professional development.


• Measurement and Verification (M&V): Partner with the internal M&V team to evaluate and communicate performance results; in some cases, assisting Energy Advisors and vSEM Coaches with resolving technical issues with the customer.


• Training and Professional Development: Learning and training related to additional technical skills to prepare to be a dynamic contributor to other programs outside of VCx and vSEM.

Key Qualifications

• Engineering Qualification: PE (US) or P. Eng. License, or possess engineer-in-training status from an accredited engineering program Bachelor’s degree.


• Experience: 3+ years ofexperience in energy advising, utility DSM program delivery or SEM coaching for large commercial facilities or institutions/campuses. Experience should include the implementation of energy efficiency solutions related to HVAC design, HVAC management or BAS controls programming. Preference will be given for candidates with on-site field experience at industrial facilities and with BASs for commercial or institutional buildings.


• Technical Knowledge: Technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, lighting) is required. Substantial knowledge of industrial/manufacturing facility operations is also strongly preferred.


• Skills: Excellent facilitation and communication abilities for presenting technical material to non-technical audiences. Strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation. Exceptional project management skills. Working proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM tools.


• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science is preferred.


• Certification: CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE or equivalent certification is preferred.


• Interest and passion for energy efficiency consulting and making a positive difference.


• Must be comfortable working independently in a 100% virtual environment.

Location and Travel

Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. While we are a fully remote company, we have hubs in the Denver and Kitchener areas and provide opportunities for our team members in those areas to connect in person from time to time. This position is eligible for employment in both the United States and Canada.

Travel is not expected for this position. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any such travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The total expected base salary range for employees residing in the U.S. is between $80,000 - $100,000 USD and CAD 93,800 - CAD 118,200 per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
