Desired background and competences
- - PhD in Economics (Environmental, Ecological, Climate or Energy Economics) or a closely related field, with a strong background in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences. PhD completed before January 2010.
- - Outstanding international research record, including high-quality peer-reviewed publications and strong citation impact.
- - Recognised expertise in quantitative analysis of climate, energy, economic, environmental and societal systems, using relevant modelling approaches such as IAMs, energy–economy–environment macroeconomic models, microsimulation and distributional models, and IO/MRIO models.
- - Strong hands-on experience in developing, integrating and applying complex models, databases and analytical infrastructures, with substantial personal contributions to modelling and data-development research.
- - Proven scientific leadership, including methodological direction, coordination of multidisciplinary teams, and supervision and mentoring of early-career researchers.
- - Strong record of attracting competitive funding and leading national and international research projects and proposals.
- - Demonstrated policy and societal impact through sustained engagement with policymakers, public administrations, international organisations, civil society and/or industry, with evidence of research informing policy or decision-making.
- - Excellent communication, organisational and collaborative skills, and very good command of English. Spanish and/or Basque are an asset but not required.
Key responsibilities
- - Define and implement BC3 s scientific strategy for E3S modelling and database development, in coordination with the Scientific Director and research teams.
- - Provide scientific and technical leadership while remaining actively involved in model and database development, integration, validation and application.
- - Develop an internationally visible E3S modelling programme, including models, databases and analytical tools with long-term scientific and policy value.
- - Strengthen integration across IAMs, macroeconomic, microsimulation, distributional and IO/MRIO models, promoting interoperability, methodological innovation and robust data infrastructures.
- - Lead the development, documentation and maintenance of databases supporting modelling, policy assessment and interdisciplinary research.
- - Lead high-quality publications, major collaborative proposals and competitive funding applications.
- - Mentor researchers and contribute to recruitment, supervision and career development.
- - Build strategic collaborations with research institutions, policymakers, public administrations, international organisations and other stakeholders.
- - Represent BC3 s E3S modelling activities in scientific and policy fora and contribute to the centre s broader scientific strategy.
