Job summary

MDU Resources Group seeks engineers at multiple levels to support electric and natural gas distribution projects. Responsibilities include modeling, system analysis, feasibility studies, and design with emphasis on safety and code compliance.

Roles progress to lead projects and manage teams, with strong emphasis on budgeting and coordination across departments. Ideal candidates will hold an engineering degree, have relevant field experience in energy, and may hold an EI/EIT or PE designation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical) required.
• Two years related work experience required.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in energy (electric/gas) operations, design and project management.
• EI (Engineering Intern) or EIT certificate preferred.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high/low pressure distribution system models using data and flow software.
• Manage placement of recording devices and review system data for capacity and codes compliance.
• Prepare feasibility studies and engineering design for distribution extensions.
• Identify system reinforcements to ensure service during peak demand.
• Provide engineering designs, cost estimates and project management for electric/natural gas projects.
• Create and update company procedures to comply with codes and practices.
• Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned.
• Project manage large complex projects including scope, schedules, cost estimates and team coordination.
• Assist in corporate budget preparation for engineering responsibilities.
