Job summary

Green Homeowners United seeks a Residential Energy Assessor in Milwaukee to lead on-site energy evaluations and modeling, following initial training. The role combines home visits with data collection to support energy efficiency improvements and building science compliance.

The ideal candidate has experience in residential construction or energy audits, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to learn. Training is paid, and union benefits plus insurance are provided.

  • Communicate effectively with homeowners and team members, and travel within Wisconsin as needed.

Job description

Pay : $19.65+ Per Hour (trainee). Energy Assessors with existing valid BPI license pay begins at $23.00/hour.

Duration/Usual Hours Per Week : Full-Time, 30 to 45 Hours Per Week Shift/Work Days: First Shift. Adjusted hours/times may be available after training, as needed Monday-Friday. Position is expected to be Monday-Friday between 8am-6pm

Minimum Requirements of Employer:

Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Desired

Professional Licenses / Certifications: Ideal candidate will have experience in residential home energy efficiency field and/or Energy Audits, basic home repairs. Interest and ability to learn and apply skills to each unique home required. Valid Driver's License : Required - Regular (Type D)

Vehicle : Required, Mileage reimbursement available.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:

Residential Energy Assessor is responsible for ensuring high quality improvements are performed in homes to company and building science standards. The Assessor will have experience and expertise in building science topics, will be able to correctly identify and solve problems in residential building stocks. After an initial training period, the Green Homeowners United Energy Assessor will be expected to:

Perform field data collection in the home sufficient for an energy assessment & energy model to be created for a home

Work with a coordinator to problem-solve on-the-ground issues in old homes to best reduce energy use and health hazards

Use a variety of tools - spray foam, caulk, mastic, weatherstripping & more - reduce energy loss through air sealing and duct sealing

Perform blower door tests, duct leakage tests, combustion safety tests, exhaust flow tests and more

Understand building science principals behind different construction approaches and energy efficiency improvements to further improve homes

Uphold the company's values of honesty, trust, promptness, entrepreneurialism, and sustainability

Experience / Qualifications:

Strong creative strategic thinking skills and willingness to innovate in fast moving issues

Basic measuring, math, and spatial modeling skills

Experience in either residential construction, remodeling or evaluating homes is preferred

Must be able to carry upwards of 50 lbs.

Excellent listening, interpersonal and problem solving skills, strong personal time management skills, organization skills, and the ability to work under pressure, and the ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining effective relationships -Ability to undertake occasional travel within Wisconsin

Must have a valid Driver's License

Candidates will be expected to undertake and pass Building Performance Institute "Building Analyst" training and continuing education (cost covered by Green Homeowners United)

Perform energy assessments as needed for clients under the auspices of Green Homeowners United, and abide by the rules, regulations and company culture -Learn and retain Building Science concepts and be able to speak effectively to homeowners about the process

Respond to communication in a prompt and professional manner

Comments: Union members are eligible for platinum 100% employer paid insurance after 1000 hours on job for apprentices or 600 hours on the job for journeypersons. Pension is vested after 5 years.
