South Central Power Company in Lancaster, Ohio is seeking an Energy Consultant who blends advisory work with hands-on field tasks in a hybrid role. You’ll work in-office as a real-time SME and, periodically, in the field testing meters and conducting investigations.

Responsibilities include advising residential and small business members on energy consumption, efficiency options, energy programs, and power quality, plus safety demonstrations to community groups.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years' energy industry experience in customer service, consultation, marketing, or operations.
• Bachelor's degree required; or five years of relevant energy experience in lieu.
• Ability to work in a team and share responsibilities to complete projects.
• Strong written, oral, and listening skills for communicating with members, vendors, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and solutions to residential and small business members on energy consumption.
• Deliver energy efficiency options and AI-generated recommendations.
• Explain energy programs such as load management, solar, and smart technologies.
• Conduct power quality investigations from simple explanations to remote monitoring.
• Educate about cooperative operations including distribution, transmission, and generation.
• Give safety demonstrations to students, community groups, and public servants.
• Discuss current topics like data centers, EVs, and electrification.

Energy Expert: Part Consultant, Part Tech, Part Community Hero! Blend live call problem solving and expert technical advisory with some hands-on field work in a hybrid, high-impact role, serving Central/Southern Ohio.

Seeking experienced energy consultant as problem solver, promoter, and SME for residential and small business market, working:

• in the office as a real-time call SME, negotiator, and consultant and
• sometimes in the field as an investigator and hands-on electrical meter tester.

DETAILS

South Central Power Company, Ohio's largest electric cooperative serving 24 counties, is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Energy Consultant at our Lancaster, Ohio office.

Responsibilities

include providing advice, consultation and solutions to residential and small business members regarding:

• energy consumption using advanced metering, AI systems, on-site end use investigation at customer's location, and live meter test
• energy efficiency and savings options including customized and AI generated recommendations
• energy programs such as load management, individual and community solar, smart technologies
• power quality investigations from simple blink explanations to coordinating multi-department, remote monitoring investigation
• education of overall cooperative operations including the role of distribution, transmission, and generation
• safety demonstrations to students, community organizations, and public servants
• current topics such as impact of data centers, new energy technologies, EVs, electrification

The selected candidate will receive incremental training to achieve selected certifications within two years from hire date.Additional demonstrated skills and certifications will support opportunities for advancement within the job family.This position will report to the Energy Services Manager.

Qualifications

• Applicants should have a minimum of five years' experience with an energy company(ies) in areas of customer service, consultation, marketing, operations, or similar experience.
• Bachelor's degree or similar experience is required. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of five years of relevant energy experience will be considered.
• Ability to work in a team environment with shared responsibilities to complete a project.
• Required skills include creative problem solving, inquisitive personality, efficient time management, and friendly yet firm negotiations.
• Candidates must have exceptional written, oral, and listening skills to effectively communicate with members, vendors and the public while promoting the energy cooperative culture.

Preferences

• Knowledge of electric, natural gas, or water utility accounting, billing, rates, marketing, metering, operations, and/or engineering is preferred.
• Additional formal training or experience with energy cooperative principles, HVAC systems, public speaking, mathematics and/or composition preferred.
