Job description

At Aeon, we design, build, and test modular weapon systems for ground and air platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and small team that allows us to iterate, build and test quickly. If you are looking to solve hard technical problems with a team of passionate engineers in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment, Aeon is the place for you.

The Electrical Technician will play a vital role in bringing cutting‑edge products from concept to reality. As a key member of our engineering team, you will work hands‑on with advanced electronic systems, owning the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electronic devices and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). This position offers the opportunity to work alongside talented engineers in a fast‑paced development environment, applying expertise in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), electronic diagnostics, and test automation to ensure products perform flawlessly. The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical challenges, thrives in a laboratory setting, and is excited to contribute directly to the success of innovative technologies.

This is a full‑time, in‑person role located in Austin, TX with plans to move to Cedar Park, TX early 2027.

What you’ll do at Aeon:
Build and Rework Advanced Electronics
  • Perform precision SMT soldering, desoldering, and rework of fine‑pitch components under a microscope.
  • Assemble, modify, and repair PCB assemblies in accordance with IPC‑A‑610 workmanship standards.
  • Interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support hardware builds and engineering changes.
  • Partner closely with engineers to assemble prototypes, evaluate design improvements, and support rapid hardware iteration.
Test, Validate, and Debug Hardware
  • Set up, configure, and operate a range of laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Execute test procedures to verify functionality, performance, and reliability of electronic assemblies and systems.
  • Analyze test results, identify trends, and troubleshoot electrical issues down to the component level.
  • Support engineering validation efforts by documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
Develop Automated Test Solutions
  • Create and maintain Python‑based tools for test automation, data acquisition, and analysis.
  • Integrate automated scripts with lab instrumentation to streamline testing, improve repeatability, and increase efficiency.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of automated test equipment (ATE) and manufacturing test processes.
  • Generate test reports and data visualizations that enable informed engineering decisions.
Troubleshoot and Repair Mission‑Critical Hardware
  • Diagnose faults in electronic circuits, PCB assemblies, and electromechanical systems using schematics and test equipment.
  • Perform repairs, modifications, and corrective rework on prototype and production hardware.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, root‑cause findings, and repair actions with a high degree of accuracy.
Support Laboratory Operations and Engineering Development
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Manage inventory of electronic components, consumables, and test equipment, coordinating replenishment as needed.
  • Assist engineering teams with prototype builds, integration activities, environmental testing, and product validation efforts.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to deliver high‑quality products on schedule.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in hand assembling and reworking Surface Mount Technology (SMT) PCBs.
  • Strong experience operating and troubleshooting using various test and measurement equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
