Job summary

Aeon is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to own electromechanical subsystems on our tactical missile platform in Austin, TX. You will mature existing actuation hardware into a qualified, producible design and then lead new, clean-sheet electromechanical work for future programs.

You will size motors and drivetrains, design interfaces, build test stands, and drive manufacturability with our shop and suppliers to enable mass production at target costs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years designing electromechanical actuation hardware that shipped.
  • Strong grounding in servo and motion control fundamentals, including the ability to size a motor and drivetrain and defend the numbers.
  • Experience carrying a design through qualification and into production, not just through first article.
  • Hands‑on test experience: instrumentation, DAQ, and debugging hardware that misbehaves.
  • Comfort working from incomplete requirements and setting your own priorities.
  • CAD and PLM fluency (NX and Teamcenter preferred).
  • Missile, munitions, UAS, robotics, or automotive actuation background.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR.

Responsibilities

  • Mature existing control actuation hardware from prototype to qualified, producible design.
  • Own the mechanical to electrical interface: packaging, connectors, harnessing, and sensor integration.
  • Design and build test infrastructure; use telemetry to characterize precision, bandwidth, stiffness, and thermal margin.
  • Run qualification: vibration, shock, thermal, and life testing with plans and reports.
  • Drive design for manufacturability with machine shop and supply chain for scalable production.
  • Lead clean sheet electromechanical design on new programs.

Job description

At Aeon, we design, build, and fly low-cost, modular, weapon systems for ground and air platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and small team that allows us to iterate, build and test quickly. If you are looking to solve hard technical problems with a team of passionate engineers in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, Aeon is the place for you.

As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer, you’ll own electromechanical subsystems on our tactical missile platform. The near-term work is maturing an existing design: carrying it through qualification, finalizing it for the production environment, and closing out the problems that only surface once you're building at rate. Once that design is locked, you’ll lead clean sheet actuation and motion control work on future programs.

This is a small team, so the scope is wide. You’ll size the hardware, build the test stands, run the tests, write the reports, and then advocate for the design changes you think it needs.

This is a full-time, in-person role in Austin, TX with plans to move to Cedar Park, TX early 2027.

What you’ll do at Aeon
  • Mature existing control actuation hardware from working prototype to qualified, producible design, including tolerance stackups, freeplay and precision budgets, and margin against launch and flight environments
  • Own the mechanical to electrical interface: packaging, connectors, harnessing, and sensor integration in a volume-constrained airframe under high-g launch loads
  • Design and build test infrastructure, then use the telemetry to characterize precision, bandwidth, stiffness, and thermal margin, and to chase down behavior that doesn't match the model
  • Run qualification: vibration, shock, thermal, and life testing, with the test plans and reports that go with them
  • Drive design for manufacturability with our machine shop and supply chain so parts scale past prototype volumes at cost targets that hold up in mass production
  • Lead clean sheet electromechanical design on new programs as they spin up
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
  • 7+ years designing electromechanical actuation hardware that shipped
  • Strong grounding in servo and motion control fundamentals, including the ability to size a motor and drivetrain and defend the numbers
  • Experience carrying a design through qualification and into production, not just through first article
  • Hands‑on test experience: instrumentation, DAQ, and debugging hardware that misbehaves
  • Comfort working from incomplete requirements and setting your own priorities
  • CAD and PLM fluency (NX and Teamcenter preferred)
  • Missile, munitions, UAS, robotics, or automotive actuation background
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR
What We Offer:
  • Fully Company-Sponsored Health Benefits: Enjoy comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage at no cost to you, including coverage for eligible dependents, plus HSA and FSA options.
  • Team Events & Company Celebrations: Connect with colleagues through team-building activities, employee events, and celebrations.
  • Complimentary Daily Lunches: Enjoy company provided lunches served onsite each workday.
  • Snacks & Beverages: Enjoy complementary snacks, drinks, and refreshments available throughout the workday.
Equal Employment Opportunity & Disclaimer

Requires U.S. person status under ITAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected non‑citizen such as refugee/asylee) due to access to ITAR-controlled defense articles or technical data.
