Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Group Exercise Instructor for Spin at the East Boston YMCA. The role involves leading engaging, safe group classes, and fostering a welcoming environment for all fitness levels.

Certifications in group exercise are required, with NCCA-accredited credentials preferred. Responsibilities include mentoring participants, staying current with wellness trends, and maintaining attendance and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in Group Exercise.
• NCCA accredited certification (ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA etc.).
• If teaching a specific group exercise format, current certification required (Yoga, Spin, Les Mills formats).
• Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
• Understanding of internal and external marketing/special events.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe, and educational group classes as directed to provide high-quality experiences for members and guests.
• Asks and answers questions from participants to support health and well-being goals.
• Maintains knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training.
• Builds authentic relationships with members and helps connect participants with the YMCA.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrates achievements related to program or personal health goals.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records using MotionVibe or similar software.
• Follows YMCA policies and responds to emergencies.
• Resolves member issues professionally following YMCA values.
