Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Cleveland Recruitment Team is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to design and lead safe, engaging, and effective group classes. The role emphasizes cueing, music selection, and participant safety and enjoyment.

Responsibilities include planning class choreography, supervising equipment, recording attendance, and maintaining certifications. Occasional travel to branches or live/virtual sessions may be required. Strong commitment to YMCA values is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred.
• Certification in CPR at Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration required within 30 days of hire.
• Current national NCCA-accredited Group Exercise Instructor certification, or YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification; if not certified, obtain within 90 days.
• If applicable, current certification/training in the specialty class format taught (e.g., Zumba, yoga, Tai Chi, SilverSneakers, etc.); must obtain within 90 days and be supervised until fulfilled.
• Must maintain all required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach effective, safe and enjoyable group exercise classes with proper progressions and cueing.
• Select appropriate music and tempo suitable for class format and population served.
• Oversees the proper use, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment and supplies.
• Plan in advance the specific composition/choreography of each class and vary music/routines.
• Begin and end class on time and record attendance accurately.
• Travel to multiple branches or lead classes in live or virtual environments as needed.
• Maintain positive rapport with participants and encourage involvement in YMCA programs.
• Follow child abuse and neglect reporting processes and mandated reporting.
