Job summary

Qualifications

• Must possess the minimum of an Associate Teacher Permit on the Child Development Matrix or be eligible to apply.
• Must have one year teaching experience in an Early Childhood Education setting.
• Must have a working knowledge of child care programs, child growth and development, and curriculum planning.
• Must be sensitive to the needs and characteristics of young children and relate well to staff, parents and community.

Responsibilities

• Create a warm, accepting environment which encourages independence and self-esteem for each child.
• Provide engaging interactions with children.
• Implement daily curriculum activities in the classroom; may involve lesson planning when the Center Director/Center Teacher is absent.
• Assist in developing program components sensitive toward each child’s rights, needs, and cultural/socioeconomic background.
• Assist in developing a safe, stimulating learning environment for all children and staff.
• Communicate information on program policies and procedures to parents, staff, and community members.
• Assist children in self-help skills and daily routines including toileting, dressing, eating, napping, etc.
• Attend staff, parent and community meetings; uphold confidentiality of child and family information.
• Implement guidance techniques suitable for the situation and support individualized behavior plans.
• Assist with meal service preparation, service and cleanup when appropriate.
• Notify Center Director or Center Teacher when a child becomes ill or hurt and administer first aid when needed.
• Attend in-service trainings and adhere to NCS policies and procedures.
• Take a lead role in the absence of the Center Director/Center Teacher.
• Perform other tasks required for efficient program operation.
