Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to join the Endoscopy Suite team. This non-exempt, full-time role involves 40 hours per week with on-call requirements and day shift scheduling.

You will prep rooms, assist with procedures and maintain equipment alongside physicians and nurses. Qualifications include at least high school plus specialized training, two years of relevant experience, and knowledge of endoscopy procedures and GI anatomy.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.
• SGNA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares procedure rooms for endoscopic procedures and assists with patient transfer.
• Assembles equipment including scopes and instruments and ensures proper functioning.
• Collects, labels tissue samples and assists with procedures.
• Assists physicians with routine and emergency procedures.

Performs a variety of routine and advanced technical and patient care duties under the direction of physicians and nurses. Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures and cleans and reprocesses a variety of endoscopes and accessories. Maintains and stocks instruments and supplies.

Major Responsibilities

• Prepares procedure rooms for endoscopic procedures. Assist with patient transfer to and from procedure rooms, prepares vital sign monitoring systems, and position patient appropriate to procedure. Assist health care team with patient care, ensuring proper airway protection via oral suctioning during upper endoscopic procedures.
• Assembles necessary equipment specific to procedure, to include scopes and instruments used for therapeutic and diagnostic treatments. Troubleshoots and ensure proper working order of computer and equipment. Ensures availability of equipment properly sized for the procedure.
• Assists physicians and health care staff with advanced endoscopic procedures. Utilizes specimen retrieval instruments and other devices to assist with procedures. Collects, records and labels tissue samples and other specimens.
• Assists physicians and health care staff with routine and emergency procedures, as assigned.
• Assist physicians with hemostatic instruments including but not limited to clips, electrocautery devices, bicaping, argon plasma coagulation and variceal ligation and banding.

Position Qualifications

Required

• Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.

Preferred

• SGNA certification preferred.

Experience/Skills

Required

• Minimum of two years of relevant experience required.
• Knowledge of patient care, endoscopy procedures and basic GI anatomy.
• Advanced knowledge of endoscopic procedures.
• Must be flexible with scheduling needs.
• Must be able to work independently and work well in teams.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred

• Surgical Instrument technician or Central Sterile Technician experience is preferred.
