Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to support GI procedures under the direction of the Endoscopist and RN. The role includes handling equipment, maintaining supplies, and reprocessing instruments after procedures.

You will communicate with patients and the health-care team, and may assist with special procedures under supervision. CPR and background clearances are required within set timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's degree in health-related field preferred.
• Current CPR certification (American Heart Association) within 60 days of hire.
• Background clearances (Act 34/33/73 FBI fingerprint) required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Endoscopist and RN during GI-endoscopic procedures.
• Maintain procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment; ensure availability and condition of equipment.
• Disassemble and reprocess instrumentation post-procedure; document per policy.
• Communicate effectively with patients and health-care team.
• May assist with special procedures under supervision (e.g., lasers, wound care) as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Acts under the direction of the Endoscopist and/or Registered Nurse during endoscopic procedures. May assist the RN in technical aspects of circulating duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participates in the maintenance of Procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment. Assures the integrity/condition and availability of adequate equipment.(40%)
• Functions as an integral member of the team throughout the performance of GI-endoscopic procedures. (30%)
• Disassembles and reprocesses instrumentation on a post-procedure basis as per current departmental policy. Maintains documentation as per policy. (20%)
• Maintains effective two-way communications with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.(5%)
• May assist with special procedures under the direction of the RN and MD (e.g., Yag lasers, wound care, line insertions, etc). (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

• High school diploma / GED or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Associate's degree in health-related field.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

• CPR- American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
